Still using my NX1 for professional shoots in 2020
16

Am still very happily using my NX1 in 2020.  In the past year I added a spare NX1 body, 2 lenses (NX 45 and NX 60 Macro) , and a second SEF-580 flash to my gear (all purchased off eBay).

This gear may be out of date but it still gives me and my customers the images they want and it is, to me, a real pleasure to use.  The EVF on this camera is great and it's relative light weight (compared to a similar SLR) is a real plus for me.

The largest image normally printed is 13X16 and for me the sensor in the NX1 is more than adequate for that.  With only a few years before retirement from professional photo work I expect this system to go as long as is needed by me.

Only problem to date with my Samsung gear has been the knurled rubber on the zoom ring of the NX S 16-50 mm has split.  Are many others still using the NX products for professional work in 2020?

Yes. But I ready to move Sony.

I want to use Sony A7m2 with 16-50s, 85mm.

Maybe 2 years later, I will shift.

Me too. 2 NX1, NX500 and NX3000.

Have the same issue with my 16-50S.

Hmm, I haven't had that issue, must mean I'm not using my 16-50 enough... I blame the 50-150.  My NX will be getting to have fun with a bunch of older glass soon too, since my uncle just gave me a bunch of old lenses at Christmas.  Like 15 of them, nothing worth much of anything, but they'll be fun.  Cleaning out the fungus was fun too... well seeing how they worked was at least, though some unfortunately had taken permanent damage.

I still use both the NX1 and NX500 for stills and video. Nothing else that I've tried (including the latest Sony, Fuji or Canon, APS-C or full frame) has given me as much pleasure and more than satisfactory results. If and when any of the cameras die I'll replace them without a blink. A true testament of an engineering marvel, specially the NX1.

I'm still going strong with the NX1. Although not for professional use, I do film most of the videos on my youtube channel with it.

https://www.youtube.com/c/MobileStuffReview/videos

I reckon I may finally switch out of it in a few years when the Canon R5 comes down in price, but even then it'll still be a B roll camera at the very least.

Funny it takes a full frame RAW 8K camera that can do 4k 120fps to finally make me want to switch, eventually, maybe

That canon R5 is tempting, if only I had the money?

I don't know much about canon glass, is it possible to pick up some cheapish lenses and still take advantage of at least some of the Ibis as well as autofocus etc? Or would it sacrifice too much?

Yes, switch and sell you NX1 to me, I don't minf having 2 LOL The Canon R5 overheats, and costs 4000$. Also, as Bixbe said, the 8K video looks rather soft, comparing to the 4k on the Nx1...

What I don't understand is the R6... can someone explain to me? Who is this camera for?

Maybe those looking to get the Panasonic S1(H) or the upcoming A7IV? Similar price range. If the overheating is a real issue with the R5 then the R6 is what I might go for. At the very least, cameras are getting exciting again with Sony and Nikon yet to put their responses forward.  ~$2500 range is a whole lot of money though, we better be getting a lot.

I'm not all too familiar with Canon. All I know is their regular lenses are really loud with AF, so a lot of Samsung's lenses would actually be more comparable to their premium series. As in, if you're coming from Samsung lenses, to get something equivalent for video, you'd have to look premium.

I don't know if it's their lenses or sensors but images tend to be soft. There's that funny video by Kai, where he compares the NX500 to the Canon 5D MKIII. He pans the NX500 the whole video but at the end he compares the IQ side by side and it's embarassing for Canon.

If bargain basement = regular, sure those lenses are loud. And Canon have plenty of sharp lenses, unfortunately their sensors don't tend to produce great 1080p. 4K compares favorably with Samsung's, though a notable exception is Canon's 32.5mp APS-C sensor, which flounders.

Canon has a new mount with RF lenses, some are ok, for pro video/photography can be VERY expensive.

There are some new ones with cheaper prices, 24 - 105mm 4-7.1f 399$, 35mm 1.8f macro 499$, 85mm 2f macro for 599, the 600mm 11f 699$, the 800mm goes for around 899$ (you read it right, the f is 11), the 24-240 4-6.3f for the same price.

The 24-105mm 4f for 1.099$

Everything else is 2299-2999$

Ofcourse you can use EF lenses with an adapter which is a good solution for EF users.

The 35 and 85mm seem like good offerings, I do not know much for the others, and the very expensive ones are on par with the similar EF, for a bigger price.

Someone that need 1-2 bodies and a few pro grade lenses, even if one goes for the R6, can exceed easily the 12.000$ mark, a lot more in europe, so the price is something to consider.

Some photographers can be limited by the 20megapixels sensor, so the R5 is a better solution, but in Europe is at 4.550euros at the moment, and the R5 seems a better video camera (there is some crippling in video formats and features going on with the R6 at the moment, I am not sure what they will do in the future), and alas, the R6 overheats too..

So, the R6 makes sense for most photographers with a limited budget, with short turnarounds and no much croping, and R5 will be a special camera (even a specialized one), definitely for very high profile professionals, but the raw files, for both video and photography, are HUGE, mind you, but for someone that needs/wants the best of the best, the R5 is the camera to het,

It is very tempting to have a nice Canon after so long and after the funny previous releases, but certainly there are some limitations going on with both of them.

My NX1 has a shuttercount of 100.000 and needs to go on retirement badly...

I'll try and find a good used one. And keep shooting with the nx system

I don't even know how many clicks my NX1 shutter has had and I don't even dare look.

But one thing is for sure I'm using it until it dies, and then trying my best to get another.

NX1 vs Canon R5 Vs A7 S III

Me neither

Speaking about video, I noticed one thing, from the reviews I've seen. The new Sony A7s III, 4K video, is almost similar to the 8K video from the Canon R5, but it is worse than the 4K of the Sony A7 III. But we also know that from a Bixbe comparison video, that The Nx1 in 4K destroyed the A7 r3, 4K video, so I was wondering what resolution is the 4K video of the Nx1 really is? Did they Samsung ended their camera division, because they gave us too much LOL

To remember:

Nx1 spanked the Sony a7 r III (4K video should be the same has the Sony A7III)

A7 s III, vs Canon r5 - 4K vs 8k, no difference?!?!

It's great that you are using the camera that much!

I also have NX500 and NX1, but I'm using NX500 mostly with my compact lenses. I need to use Canon gear for telephoto shots.

It's a pity that NX don't have good telephoto lenses (50-150 is so rare, not long enough for me and overpriced). My NX1 is with grip and 2 batteries, I was ready for the 300 2.8 lens...

If you are in Europe and you want NX1 in great condition - I would be happy to pass mine to somebody who will use it more.

You're right about the 50-150mm. A fantastic lens but another thing that puts me off is some issues people have had with it.

the samsung nx1 has a excellent burst mode which allows you to take 8 frames consistent with second for as much as 11 jpeg snapshots at the very best photo nice, or 8 uncooked pix, however again be prepared to watch for a long term for the digicam to system all of the images and latest TECH - it's so sluggish for uncooked pix that an on-screen development bar seems
