EOS R and Tamron 70-200 G2 f2.8?

Wondering if anyone has anything to share about the EOS R and Tamron 70-200 G2 f2.8. While I love RF lenses, I cannot justify spending so much on the RF 70-200, when I might be able to get by using an EF lens and the adaptor.

Additionally, is there any solid evidence of other manufacturers coming out with a 70-200 2.8 for the RF mount that I should consider?

ANSWER:
Canon EOS R Tamron SP 70-200 F2.8 G2

I didn't have any performance issues with the Tamron g2 on my R.

My 70-200 G2 is having an issue where it oscillates continuously as if it was trying to focus when resuming from standby. I have to turn the camera off and then back on after several seconds for it to return to normal operation.

The body has up to date firmware and no firmware updates have been issued for the lens. I have reset the lens settings to default through the Tap In console to see if it resolves the problem.

Re: EOS R and Tamron 70-200 G2 f2.8?

Thanks everyone. I rented out the lens and I am liking it quite a bit! I might buy this.

The only two issues I see so far is that the EF-RF adapter makes the lens look huge, but there is no way around this unless you go for the RF 70-200, which I cannot do. The second issue is that for some reason you must turn off VC when shooting from a tripod, something that I've never bothered to do with any lens that I've used on a tripod.

The result of failing to turn off VC when tripod mounted, particularly in low light, is absolutely terrible and unusable.

I've always heard that vc/is has to be disabled when the camera is on a tripod. I also don't see the point to use is on a tripod... But there might be one. I owned the 24-70 g2 and the 90mm macro g2: the vc is always on and literally drain the battery of the R. I got only 200 shots with Vc on and around 600 with vc off...there is a recent thread about it on dpr. Some people reported it to Canon. Cheers

I have the Tamron 100-400mm Di VC USD and while the AF always works eventually it is very slow in achieving focus if the subject is very much farther or closer than the last one. OTOH, my Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS II focuses almost instantaneously. I sometimes "help" the Tamron by adjusting the lens manually to bring the subject into rough focus. In passing, I must say that the Tamron's focus ring is very conveniently situated for this purpose.

Hi! I am experiencing the same issue! It loops eternally around focus point. I am not able to reproduce the issue by letting the camera go into standby mode, though.
Do you have any news on this issue? I am using meike adapter

Have you tried disabling Eco mode?
