Is Panasonic still manufacturing the G7 camera?

The Panasonic G7 was released in 2015 but it is still sold in shops as a new camera. I'm wondering if Panasonic still manufactures this camera or are shops still selling stock from warehouses?

Toyota bring out a new model car approx every 3 years such as the Corolla, is this the same for some cameras where manufacture of a certain model camera stops after a certain number of years?

No, it is just old stock that has been around for some time in a warehouse.

I'm surprised that the camera shops don't drop the price of this camera as it's now 5 years old.

As they are still selling old stock I'm wondering if this camera did not sell as well as other cameras.

It is up to you to see what specs you need out of a certain camera, it is not up to the camera company, they just to have to list the specs.

The g95 is the current model and generation of the g7.  Most g7 should have been sold off as two lens kits at holiday sales in the last few years.   You may see g7 models left on the shelves unsold. It's still an okay camera but the g85 is better in every way. G95 is over priced given the g9 is so close in value.

If I remember correctly, it had a very very short lifespan before Panasonic introduced higher spec models at very little price premium.

These are items that can be sold at near full price to those who have not done their homework.

The G7 is widely available in the U.K., new from Panasonic dealers. I doubt it is still being manufactured. Regardless, given the small differential in price, the G80 is a far better camera and the one to go for if buying ‘last years model’. Had the G7, now have 2 G80s.

It's also still listed on the Panasonic UK site shop which usually only carries current models (they have g80s as well) although interestingly it is listed as "Awaiting Stock"

I had a look at the general specs for the G80 camera and compared to the G7 I don't see much difference. What attracted you to the G80 camera?
I think the G80 does not have a built-in flash.

I think that anything that stills says is likely to keep it's price or drop not a lot in price.
The main appeal for this camera is that it's loaded with features, light weight and small in size. Good for the traveler.

The G80/81/85 does have a built-in flash.  It also does not have an anti-aliasing filter, which is a plus for many, and it’s a weather resistant body.  The g85 is a bigger step forward from the g7 than it is a step down from the g95.

Brian, IIRC when you posted earlier enquiries on you first M43 (last year or earlier?), members should have listed the difference on G7 and its successors ...

G85 has an integrated flash. Indeed G85 has everything G7 has.

The following are the highlight on major features that G7 does not have:

  • Weather sealed body,
  • IBIS for all non IS lens, a lot of improvement over the better than nothing primitive IBIS of GX7,
  • DUAL IS 2 for min 1.5~2 stops more effective IS than lens OIS,
  • IBIS for 1080 and 4K video which is far more useful on video than OIS,
  • A new m-shutter to reduce possible shutter shock,
  • Removed the AA filter for sharper SOOC output,
  • Not sure about G7, but G85/GX85 has a stop higher usable ISO then GX7, so could be the same for G85 vs G7...

The above are now basically a norm spec of Panasonic M43 nowadays (likely the entry class GF will use the same soon). G7 is not old because it was launched a few years back. In fact it is the last G line of camera using the older hardware spec as G5, G6...

Brian,

I upgraded from G6 (my first M43) to the G7 attracted by the twin-front/ rear control wheels that suit my 99% usage Aperture Priority. I did not expect to upgrade again but only 12 months later I attended a Photo Show ( Wilkinson’s Digital Splash in Liverpool). I was immediately smitten by the solid and rugged feel compared to the plasticky feel of the G7. Dual-IS, makes a big difference, especially if using kit level lenses starting at f3.5. Weathersealing and the zoom range of the 12-60mm are big pluses too. The EVF angle of view is better too ( significant for me as I wear glasses). There was a show offer on, saving £100 plus a free battery grip with extra battery. So, I took the plunge. The part-ex offer on the G7 was abysmal. I sold the G7 on eBay at a much better price.

In October 2018, I attended a LUMIX event, ostensibly to try the 15mm. Unfortunately the reps were unable to explain the workings of the 15mm ( the auto/manual switch ). So, I didn’t buy one. But there was a special event discount offer coupon/code that could be used in conjunction with a current Panasonic UK Cashback offer, a G80 net cost of circa £500. So, I bought another G80 ( yes, with another 12-60mm the price differential being less than I could get for it on eBay). Having two G80s means I can have coverage of 8-18 + 14-140 in cities or 14-140 + 100-400mm for wildlife, without lens changing. One charger, same shared spare batteries, etc.

In the run up to Christmas just gone, there were some very attractive offers on the G80 and G9. eBay secondhand prices for the G80 have recently dropped to under £500. Also worth looking at the eBay Panasonic Outlet for refurbs with full guarantee.

No doubt I will, eventually, buy a G9 for wildlife but for this next year, getting out and using what I have is the priority.

I recently stopped in a local camera shop where they had an E-M1 I and an E-M5 I displayed but I don't think that hints of either camera being manufactured.

I was looking for a light small camera when I was planning on going over seas in early 2018 and at the time the G7 seemed to be the best choice as the plastic body made it lighter than some of the other cameras. I was also pleased that I could buy the camera with a 10x zoom lens.

There were a few problems that I was not aware of at the time I brought the G7 such as shutter shake at a certain shutter speed and focusing problems when video recording.
But most of my holiday shots were OK/

The other thing I had not considered was that the sensor suited 4:3 ratio photos where I prefer 3:2 ratio as I often display my photos on a 16:9 screen. Setting the camera to 3:2 ration means I reduce from 16k down to 14k in pixel count for my photos.

Ah, completely forgot as it is now normal to me - the new shutter on the G80 eliminated any shutter shock (not that I noticed/suffered it) and sounds incredibly quiet (delightful evening).
