Re: Canon Rebel SL1

Is this a brand new SL1?

If by inserting the correct charger battery and you get no power, you need to send it to a service centre.

Re: Canon Rebel SL1

Batteries can age, where they gradually fail whether we use them or not.  I just read that a few minutes ago.  But I didn't spend much time researching it further either.  I would suspect the batteries are bad first, before looking at the camera.  For my Canon T2i (550D) camera, one of my batteries started to fail recently and I replaced it with Wasabi batteries.  The Canon T2i (550D) and Canon SL1 (100D) cameras are both about the same age.  I can't remember exactly without looking it up.

The review of the SL1 on B&H is dated about six years ago. If the friend stored it unused for three or four years, it is entirely possible that the batteries could go stone dead. This happened to a DSLR that my nephew's wife owned. I had a bunch of third party batteries that fit so diagnosing the problem was real easy. But the original battery didn't take a charge at all, because of not being charged for several years.

The SL1 should be a decent camera.  It uses the 18 megapixel sensor, which isn't bad.  My EOS M has the same sensor and I still use it.

The SL1 uses LP-E12 batteries.  There are a bunch of cheap third party E-12s available.

Now sure, but does the SL-1 have a thin "watch-type" battery that is not easily accessible but can be accessed. I know some of the Canon bodies have these batteries. I have some old Canon bodies but have never had to change one but I don't use the bodies any longer.

The battery I mentioned is why the date doesn't blink, etc. when you remove the primary battery.

I was referring to the primary battery, not the watch battery, being stone cold dead. Because the OP said "Canon rebel SL1 NO POWER".

I don't know if newer cameras even use replaceable watch type batteries to maintain clock and other internal data.  I thought they used some kind of internal rechargeable battery.

I try to recharge all my rechargeable batteries every six, or so, months.  Especially for the older cameras that I'm not currently using.
