G9, ISO 12.800, Oly 40-150 Pro + MC20
2

Two wooden figures with metal sails (boat outside frame), heavily weathered through the years. Shot handheld on a gray, overcast day, late afternoon. Lets call it a sh***y light.

RAW photo has been processed in DxO Photolab, followed by Topaz Sharpen AI (settings: sharpen 10/100, denoise 100/100).

Of course this image has no photographic value whatsoever, but its technically pushing the limits, which was exactly what I was after.

I am very happy with whats capable at that high ISO. So I thought maybe its of interest or help for someone else doubting the G9s ISO limits, the lens + 2x converter combo or post denoise capabilities.

Very good result

Of course it is not only the G9 itself, but also the great tools Dxo and Topaz are (to take care of noisy pictures).

Re: Very good result

Thats right. The whole pipeline. And I'm sure latest Oly bodies will perform likewise.

Unfortunately other images taken at the same ISO value may lead to different results altogether. Final result depends also on subject 'texture' and details as well as overall frame lighting.

A face in a dimly lit room would probably look worse, in terms of detail retention and color rendering.

This to say that not all shots at 12800 will result in an acceptable final image, despite DXO and Topaz noise...

Not all 12,500 ISO images would look good with any camera.

Impressive! Thanks for sharing both your result and workflow. Very promising setup.
