To consider without hesitation

Very compact lens that fits well with the logic of a compact system (weight and size). The focal length and its 1: 2 magnification ratio is more than enough for most macro needs, and is an excellent portrait lens.

Pros:
Construction quality
Image quality and sharpness from f / 2.4 (peaks at f / 5.6)
Metal lens hood

Cons (annoying points):
I would like an opening ring with slightly tighter notches
39mm thread is not standard
The electric focus system which does not allow you to stay locked when you turn off the camera (returns to its nominal position).

An excellent lens to consider without hesitation

I assume you mean aperture ring by opening ring?

You are correct it is a very good lens if the focal length suits you.  People often say the AF is sluggish.

Re: To consider without hesitation

While I agree that it is optically great, it is also a bit frustrating so I sold mine yesterday and ordered the 80mm on sale. My issue with the 60mm is not so much slow focus, but that when it hunts, it hunts through its entire range to acquire focus. I'm hoping the focus limiter switch on the 80mm will help a lot. It is too soon to know, since the lens is arriving tomorrow.

If you don't need autofocus on close-up moving subjects, the 60mm is a great lens.

Re: To consider without hesitation

Mine was much better on a more modern body compared with the X-M1 I first used it on.

I sold it having bought the 80mm; I've now got a Zeiss 50mm macro too as the 80mm is big and heavy.

I am very fond of mine, in spite of its quirks. It makes an ideal companion lens for the 35mm f/1.4, being only fractionally larger. I replaced the hood that came with my 60 with a second copy of the handsome square hood from the 35, which fits perfectly. This pair currently shares an X-T10, but I may buy them an X-T2 eventually.

Re: To consider without hesitation

Hi,

If you can live with the fact that it has first gen AF, it's a great lens - perhaps under-rated in this forum.  Pretty much everyone agrees that it should have had a limiter, because it will indeed hunt through the entire range if it doesn't lock on focus.  Most people switch to MF with a macro lens anyway for higher magnifications.

I hope Fuji develop a Mark II with a limiter, improved AF and sealing.  I'd be perfectly happy if they leave the optics the same.

Cheers, Rod

For the second, you have some notes in Flickr that say, "sharp corner," but it's a 1x1 crop of the original, and it may even be downsampled (in Flickr at least). Are those really the corners?
