Upgrading from an X-T1 in 2020 budget approx. 1,000$

I’m looking to upgrade from an X-T1 on a budget of 1000$ thereabout. I’m looking for:

  • Better AF-S esp. In low light, with the 35 f2, much less with the 50-140, the T1 hunts quite a bit to a degree where sometimes you miss important shots.
  • Dual cards would be nice for some redundancy
  • Better locking of the dials, I keep tripping the drive toggle under the iso dial.
  • Better/faster connectivity / with minimal interruption of the shooting experience. Who has experience with Fuji’s Bluetooth implementation? NFC?
  • Better video (higher bitrate and better in-built mics , XT1 audio comes out distorted when recording loud audio) would be great. Video is not my mainstay so doesn’t have to be the best out there but better than XT1.
  • IQ has been largely great on the XT1, can’t complain much but would love some ability to crop more.
  • More accurate battery level representation on evf, lcd. It goes from two bars to red on both grip and body. Could be better.
  • An LCD that works! My XT1 lcd flex cable cut , there’s no signal to LCD.so i have literally been in X-Pro 3 mode for about a month now. It’s quite an experience but a stretch on battery life and reviewing files and accessing menu is a pain honestly.
  • Brings me to: High Durability, i don’t want to have to deal with another cut flex cable or replacing the rubber on the body two years on!

Been searching and it has come down to the used market for.

XT2, XH1 or XT3?

Im leaning more towards H1, seems to be the sweet spot given my list of needs. I have seen deals where you can get body, 3 batteries and grip for just over a thousand,

therein lies my dilemma should I stretch my budget a little and reach for the T3 instead? Future proofing perhaps?

Conflicted! What are your thoughts people? Thank you

Having had XP1 XT1 XT2 and now XT3 and XH1 it is clear for me that the XH1 has got the best build with a thick coating and thicker alloy body

Go for the XH-1 deal. It's a fine body and I hope to use mine for a long time. I sold the grip and kept the extra batteries.

As others have mentioned, the XH1 is a great camera and hard to beat, especially at the current price. I have the XH1 and an X100F, and recently picked up a used XT1 GSE in mint condition for $400, for when I want a smaller camera to use with WR primes. I really like the small form factor of the XT1. Which is a bit surprising as I rented an XT3 and did not like it. Will you be keeping the XT1? I would if at all possible. It is still a great camera when it’s limitations are known. It does miss shots if you are in a hurry.

Good luck,

Michael

My recommendation would be if video is really important to you then go with the X-T3, otherwise go with the X-H1.  Both are excellent cameras.  The deal on the X-H1 is amazing and the X-T3 was just recognized by DPreview as the best camera under $1500.

I have the H1 and T3. If I had to get rid of one it would be the T3. No contest. But I don’t ever do video so no idea how either works. Don’t ever even read that part of the manual

Good luck whatever you choose.

a used X-T3 for sure

its getting an amazing firmware upgrade in a few weeks which will bring its focus abilities into a whole different class than the previous models

Thank you. Yes I intend to keep the XT1. I have the GSE also and its a looker especially with the silver Functions. I however need to buy the LCD flex cable and trust my local repairman to replace it. Hope that goes well.

Re: Upgrading from an X-T1 in 2020 budget approx. 1,000$

I just sold my X-T2 this week and I was surprised by how little they are selling for, so budget-wise, that may be your best choice. It is a good camera and meets most of your requirements. That said, one reason I sold it is that I realized how much more I like using my X-T3 and how little I was using it 99% of the time because of that. The other reason was to finance my purchase of the 80mm.

I have no experience withe the X-H1, and I think all of your choices will be an upgrade, but having had the X-T1, X-T2, and X-T3, I think the latter will be your biggest upgrade if you can find one to meet your budget. The outlier is if you really want IBIS and are ok with the bigger body. For the X-T bodies, there is a real difference between the T2 and the T3, but it will come at a cost.
