Would you buy a NX30 again?

... or for the first time in 2019?

I started a thread about buying an nx1 or a x-t2, since i love the colors i get from my nx300 and it’s great LCD.

But now I’m thinking on spending less. And the nx30 has the same nx300. But with an evf, what I’m missing right now

I’ve read about the rainbow tearing effect. Is it a real issue? How often do you see it?

Thanks again

It's personal. You have to see for yourself if you see it and if it annoys you. FWIW, I tested Panasonic cameras with such EVFs and cannot stand them. My friends have no idea what I'm talking about. Go figure

I don't remember if NX30 had a mic input. If it did then yes, I'd buy it

I think it does have a mic input..

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I've been looking for an external mic for my NX1 but reviews are mixed. Do you have any recommendations? I'm not sure if I need stereo...

I think any external mic is a million times better than the internal mic. Professionals may be picky about the mics, but I saw the video below and the 87USD option seemed perfect for everything I need... so went with that

The DR capabilities are better on the NX30...
1

...over the NX300.  Both will give you that same color tonality and as you said, the EVF on the NX30 is a big plus.  Although I must say that compared with many other EVF's out there today, the one on the NX30 is nothing to write home about (other than it pulls out so you can use it vertically.  Now do keep in mind that when the NX30 was released, it didn't receive the best of reviews.

The NX30 has a very plasticky feel and is exceptionally light.  The NX300 has a better quality feel to it, but that could be subjective.  Anyway, I recently sold my NX300 (I have the NX500) because I also have the NX30 - so no need to have two 20 MP's models on hand.  I'm keeping my NX30 because of the following:

1)  Has a better (read "cleaner") high ISO capability above ISO 2000 (as compared to the NX300) - but I would not go over ISO 3200 with the NX30.

2)  Has the same great color tonality of the likes of the NX3000 and NX5000.

3.  The EVF which is articulating - comes in handy with scenarios involving macro photography and when you have to get down really low.  Just pull up and out and the EVF lets you do that.

4.  The touch EVF is very responsive to be sure.

I use mine specifically for scenic and landscape scenarios as I don't like Samsung colors for skin tones (where Fuji rules).

Now do keep in mind that the NX30 takes a different type of battery than the ones found in the NX300 and NX500.  So bear that in mind when looking for extra batteries as they "may" be more difficult to find.

Now as to your question, "Would I purchase the NX30 all over again, if I could?"  Since I shoot with a variety of mirrorless cameras (Fuji X system, various Micro 4/3 cameras, the Canon EOS M system, and of course the Samsung NX system), I'd have to say "No."  And why is that?  Because on the Fuji side of the house they have some wonderful deals on the 24 MP X-T2 and X-T20 cameras that have great EVF's, superb low noise high ISO results and class leading Dynamic Range capabilities.  The NX300 and NX30 pale in comparison.  Technology does moves on.

A few NX30 samples taken with the kit 16-50 F3.5-5.6 IS Power Zoom lens.  All shot in RAW.

The videomicro arrived yesterday and so far so good. However I've since heard of the Boya by-mm1 which looks remarkably similar but has the extra cable for use with a phone. It's also half the price and one comparison review said that it's equally as good. So I'm contemplating sending the videomicro back and getting that instead. What do you think?

I've never used mic with phone, so don't know about that. I hope it comes with a short cable, as that's the one you would use with camera. Half the price is significant, and if the reviews show its just as good than yes, it is a good idea to send videomicro back and get the cheaper version. The biggest difference is between internal mic and external mic. Differences between external mics are generally negligible for non-professional use

Re: Would you buy a NX30 again?

I was going for NX30, but few here, and then got NX20 in fine shape. Good enough in daylight I think. I like the tilting EVF of NX30, but not ideal with glasses. And now NX1 is coming down in price. Is it really much larger than NX30? I like the size and weight of NX20, mostly using the smallest lenses. So maybe no NX30.

Knowing there's a hardware problem, the command dial skips or doesn't work most of the time on mine, I wouldn't.

Same here.

Also, the lockups and freezes, having to take the battery off in order to restart.

No NX30 for me.
