E-P5 as a backup for E-M1.1 - what features do I lose?

Pondering a low-cost compact backup for my main camera -- Olympus EM1 (Mark 1) -- I noticed the availability of Olympus E-P5 bodies in excellent condition at low prices.

It seems that the EP5 was released about a month before the EM1, and shared many of the same features. (Also, I already have an Olympus VF-4 add-on viewfinder, which is compatible with the EP5.)

However, on checking the M4/3 firmware update page, I see that while the EM1 is currently at version 4.6, the EP5 is only at version 1.8. Of course, I don't use all of the features of the EM1, but still...

Any comments/thoughts on the pros and cons of getting an EP5 as a second body?
Does anyone else on the forum have this combination: EM1.1 and EP5?

The big difference is that the E-P5 has the earlier TruePic chipset so misses out on things like Live Composite, focus bracketing, fully electronic shutter and has no phase detect AF.

It's still a darn good camera though with the 1/8000 better grade shutter and uses the same batteries as the E-M1. Must use 0 sec anti-shock as the camera when released was a shocky horror show, fixed by a firmware update.

However, on checking the M4/3 firmware update page, I see that while the EM1 is currently at version 4.6, the EP5 is only at version 1.8. Of course, I don't use all of the features of the EM1, but still...

The firmware level has nothing to do with it. Simply that they bothered to add more features to the E-M1 as time went by as they learned to get the better TruePic chipset working properly.

The E-P5 is my only body, no desire to get anything bigger than that.

I have a menu help page found via tinyurl(dot)com/m43stuff

I think the pen f is a better complement as it is more up to date processing features. They're both trupic 7 and share the same battery.  The ep5 has dial failures. Only problem with pen f is the price. I ended up getting a mint second hand one from Australia for about 900 Canadian. The price I pay for shinies.

I have exactly those two cameras, to me, they both work the same, press the shutter button and they both take pictures.

although my E-P5 has the dial failure, it was fixed in Bangkok by Olympus service in 2016 and never miss a beat ever since.

I have my Voigtlander 17.5mm mount on the E-P5, and the 12-100 on the E-M1.

Not 100% failures. I have two E-P5, one had dial problems and fixed nicely a few years back under warranty, no problems since. The second E-P5 has had no problems, both used for a few years now.

Even when the dials fail my old E-PL1 training came in handy and got through a 6 week holiday with the old button pressing method.
