Another Gx9 weird issue ...
1

I really want to love that camera: size is perfect for a walk around camera, IQ is the best I've seen in micro 43, including jpegs and it's so fun to use. Surprisingly, I even got used to the tiny Evf I didn't like on the Gx7 and Gx80. However ...

As I stated earlier, I'm having issues with ibis, which is working intermittently. And I still don't know if it's my camera or a firmware bug...

There is another issue I now encountered several times: when shooting outside in cold grey weather, I noticed that when I use the Evf, it goes black after taking a picture. If I remove my eye from the Evf, live view is visible on the screen as usual. And Evf works normally. But as soon as I take a picture with the Evf, it goes black again. I thought it was due to a lens (Oly75-300v1) but today I was using the Oly 45 1.8 and noticed the same issue.

I am really considering sending the camera for repair but I'm scared that those intermittent bugs will not be noticed by the technician... That's really a shame since the camera does exactly what I want, and going back to the Gx80 would be difficult, as the new GX9 does offer much better jpegs and feels much refined generally.

Re: Another Gx9 weird issue ...

It sounds like a LVF/Monitor switching issue, how is yours setup?

Sounds like it needs servicing. Perhaps you could use your phone (or a friend could use his camera) to make a very short video of the issue - to avoid it not happening on the technician's desk. Send the video in with the camera.

Camera is set to auto switch. Weird thing is that it never fails indoors but only outdoors when it's cold.

Good idea, thanks. I will try to do that.

You could try changing the sensitivity, or manually switching. Or it might need servicing as suggested.

How cold? Cold can have various weird effects on electronics. I don’t know what sensor they use, but I could easily imagine it going wrong in the cold, or maybe after your eye warmed up the sensor. It could be an “interesting” issue to debug.

To OP:

Including the IBIS issue which has not been reported many as expected if it is really a general problem, plus the EVF performance now, I guess there could be something wrong on the circuit inside your camera.

Since a lot of reasons that can develop weird behaviour from loose contact, deterioration of IC (corrosion due to moisture?), out of factory QC issue etc... Electronics are electronic, never 100% fool proof.

If it is under warranty, send it for a check.

Check that...

Are you sure that you are not holding the camera high up with your left thumb obscuring the eye sensor, this will black out the EVF. You are more likely to do that if wearing gloves
