Love my X-T100, but X-E3 is $280 new. No brainer?

Love my X-T100, but X-E3 is $280 new. No brainer?

I got myself an X-T100 five months ago and have been absolutely enjoying it. I got it with the XC 15-45mm, 27mm, XC 50-230mm, and a Meike 35mm f1.7. Obviously a budget-oriented setup, but I’ve been taking good photos with it (my Flickr).

The X-T100 is known to have a laggier screen and slow AF-C as its drawbacks. I immediately noticed how incredibly inconsistent the touchscreen swipe functions were when I first got the camera, so I disabled them. Thought this would be a clear X-E3 advantage, but actually, I just gave the functions a second chance after firmware upgrades, and they work flawlessly on the X-T100. They really did fix them. The screen is perhaps still not super snappy, but completely fine if I’m honest.

So the only other advantage is the better AF-C, but I also never use AF-C. I don’t shoot sports, except for occasional motorsport (Formula 1), and for that I actually use manual focus (album here).

But my local (Saudi Arabia) online store has occasional irrational discounts on random stuff, and this time it’s a brand new X-E3 body for $280 only. It just seems like an absolute steal, but one that I do not need. In fact, I use the tilting screen quite a bit, when photographing my cats for example.

Did anyone go from X-T to X-E (or vice versa) and can comment on transitioning to a fixed screen? Perhaps someone who particularly went X-T100 to X-E3? Is there anything else I would gain with the X-E3? Any real benefits for an enthusiast to own two bodies?
Or should I just save the $280 towards a lens or my next upgrade? I’ve been wanting to stick to my X-T100 till at least ~2021, with my next upgrade perhaps a discounted X-T30 or X-T3 in 2021. But here I am, five months later, and this deal seems too good to pass.

Unfortunately, there is no store where I could try the camera out. I did handle it in a store in Japan and remember liking it, but obviously didn’t look too much into it as I wasn’t trying to buy it.

You have to ask yourself if you're REALLY missing something. If I had only one camera I would certainly miss the tilting screen because sometimes this is really handy. I can live with the fixed screen of my X-E3, but only because it is my secondary camera and I also have the X-H1.

If the X-T100 had the X-Trans sensor I would have preferred it over the X-E3 because it's the better looking camera and has the tilting screen. But I want the same sensor in both of my cameras (call it an obsession or whatever you want).

AF is better. Sensor is better. 4K video at 30fps. Rangefinder style. The list goes on.

The X-E3 is better than the X-T100 except for the fixed screen. For $280, I suggest you buy it and enjoy superior functionality in both stills and video

The differing sensor technologies is a very valid point actually, since I use Lightroom at the moment. I will do further reading on how to go about LR sharpening for X-Trans, even though generally I do not tend to oversharpen my photos. Or is C1 a clear winner for X-Trans?

It is or at least was about a year ago when I switched from LR to C1 only because of how X-Trans is handled.

I don't know if Lightroom closed the gap in the meantime.

Adobe added an Enhance Details function a while back with closes the gap significantly IMHO.
