'New' Portraits with 'Old' lens- what fun! (Pentax K1 II)
21

Hey guys, I have an old Vivitar 75-205 f3.8 MC lens (all manual) and put it on the Pentax K1 II just moments ago and shot these shots of my daughter. The lens is really sharp at f3.8 and I didn't have to sharpen the shots at all. The color rendition is nice as well and aside from the manual focus it was fun shooting with it. My daughter is used to instant focus as I normally use a Sony A7III and she has a Canon EOS M50 so sitting still for a few moments to acquire focus was new for us both- but we had fun......what do you guys think of using old glass like this?

Looks good from here. I have a Rikenon XR 70-150 f/4 that compares very well with the 55-300, never had better glass to compare against. Use what works.

Nicely done!  Great bokeh.   I have a few Takumar screw-mounts that I use on my K-1.  There is a lot of quality glass available at very reasonable prices, for those willing to use manual lenses.

Your daughter looks very comfortable in front of the lens. Well practiced, it appears. Lucky you! 😉

WRT resale I've always avoided this lens if I could, and if I got one I wouldn't sell it for more than $20 CAD, it seems this one is a bit of an unknown sleeper, I doubt that would improve the value but it may well improve the ability to sell it. Nice photos!

WRT price/performance ratio, this lens for 20CAD is a steal!!

Gear doesn't matter in your case. You would be able to take good photos with anything.

Your pictures are a perfect response to those posts where folk complain their pictures are not good/sharp enough and they wonder if a better lens or a complete change of brand will help.

The equipment is the least important element in good photography (exceptions maybe for sport/wildlife/low light). You have shown that vision and technique will create a great picture even if you take your pictures with an old shoebox and a milk bottle taped to a hole in the side !
