South Florida and Pentax K1 II, wildlife.
17

Decided to bring out the Pentax K1 II and a cheap Phoenix 100-400 lens for some wildlife shooting around south Florida.

It's not a great lens but it was affordable and light....I hope to get a Sigma 50-500 and give this another go.

Very nice work. I would suggest staying away from Sigma 50-500mm--at least the first version. Your lens is delivering far better images

I got the Sigma 50-500mm IS version but didn’t have much time to play with it yet. 😜

The latter versions might be much better. I have the oldest version and it sucks:-(

Thank you for the kind words.

I'm not sure why more photographers don’t shoot wildlife with Pentax cameras- it is a highly capable system that’s only limited by tracking abilities- aside from that plenty of opportunities exist to use the camera successfully for wildlife shooting. The K1”s highlight retention is fantastic and was a pleasure to use. My favorite camera is the Sony A7 III but I still enjoy the K1and will continue to use it until it sells: and if it doesn’t sell, I won’t be too disappointed! (I have it listed for sale.)

The K1 is also a fantastic portrait camera but doesn’t seem to get much attention in that arena as well- it’s a shame more professionals don’t use it for high end portrait work.

As for the comments on the Sigma 50-500, I’ve owned quite a few of them for other mounts and have had good luck with them but have never had a Pentax version and I’d like to get one to try with the K1:I’m hoping I get a later version as heeded by comments here.

i really like the Pentax brand and hope they continue on but I feel they need to improve video quality (and SR for video) and make a move into the mirrorless market to stay viable in today’s economy: it would be a shame to lose Pentax.

Thanks again for the nice comments and happy shooting with your Pentax cameras- they’re a real treat to use.
