I just opened a brand new EOS R + RF 24-105 kit and am kinda losing my mind because the 24-105 is displaying f00. I have tried using a microfiber cloth to clean the contacts. I tried taking it off, putting it back on, over and over. I was going to try updating the lens firmware, but as the camera does not detect the lens at all, I can't update the lens firmware. I tried an EF lens on the camera with the RF adapter... it worked. So it's some issue with the RF lens.

Anything I haven't tried? Do I exchange the whole kit for a new one? I am so crushed! :(

Hi Erin,

Sorry to hear this, doesn’t sound too good for ‘out of the box’. Error codes... Here

Possible ‘quick fixes’ include cleaning the lens contacts with a swab/ pencil eraser.

If all of the obvious things fail I’d definitely pursue an immediate return/ swap-out.

It should just work.

Phil

A shot in the dark,...try charging the battery. It could be that the RF lens needs more power or higher voltage on those contacts to start up its electronics.

Battery could be at a pretty low voltage if it was on the self for a long time.

The very first time I put a lens on this camera, I had a similar problem. I had not rotated the lens far enough. The lens mount felt stiff.
failing that you will need to figure out whether the problem is the lens or the camera. Ideally you should use another RF lens. Do you have anasapter and an EF lens?

I was using a charged battery from my 5D Mark III (LP-E6) while the EOS R's battery (LP-E6N) charged. Both can be used, but I did try the LP-E6N... no change.

Yes, it did feel very stiff. I've since taken it off and put it back on numerous times hoping to dislodge whatever might be sticking. No luck.

I did try my EF 85/1.8 with the RF adapter and it worked on the camera. So it's something with the 24-105.

I've emailed B&H about the issue for possible exchange.

I tried a microfiber lens wrap and then an eraser. No change.

Well, I’m sorry this had to be your introduction to the R because it’s a great camera with some annoying flaws. Hopefully BH will get you a replacement pronto.

Thanks. In all my years of buying gear, this is a first!

When I bought this combo the sensor of my EOS R died within an hour. These things happen.

It is always something...

A working RF 24-105 L is a great lens. Best wishes on the replacement

Thank you

didn't know this

updated mine to 2.0.1
I hate this. I look at my coffee cup and know one day, I will be doing firmware updates on my new cup. New RF 11-400mm f/2 lens hacked and my savings account wiped out the same day I put it on my camera?

I didn't update my RF 24-105mm but now wonder what I am missing.
