32mm f/1.4 lens - City & Street Photography (PICS)
19

I made a few trips into the city recently to try and find a specific Silversmith at the local city markets.  I was toting the EF-M 32mm f/1.4 STM lens on the EOS M6 and took a few pictures on each trip.  I'm still astonished by the detail it can capture and appreciate the flattering effects of the shallow Depth Of Field that it can render.  There's a little haze in the city from the endless Sydney bushfires about 120km away.  The CPL filter was fitter over the top of the UV filter in a double-stacked method... which had no effect on clarity, from what I can see.  I saw a woman fall as I turned to talk to my wife as we walked by and we managed to get to her an apply a pressure bandage to stop the bleeding.  I took some pictures for her own records and to imprint the correct time of the incident.  It needed stitches and was a partial double degovement of the skin over the muscle.  She seems to have mended since.
.
These images were taken handheld in JPEG.  A HOYA Fusion (Evo) Circular Polarizer was used for many of these shots. It reduced a little glare, enabled use of a wide open aperture and removed some reflections from store fronts.  There's a few images so I'll post 10 here and two more sets in a follow-up post in this same thread in a moment.
.
There's still a bit of chatter here from members pondering an EOS M camera or even this specific lens.  I've lifted some shadows and tweaked one or two images before downsizing them.  No crops.

fantastic set of images illustrating the capabilities of the 32 ... don't have one yet and you're not helping me resist pulling the trigger. I could sure use a good sale to pop up about now.

Thanks once again for sharing your images - much appreciated.

Fantastic photos. Fantastic lens that smashes anything in this price range in APS-C and even some FF options. I will never give up my 32. My FAV lens today and that includes all my FF L and RF glass as hard as that is to believe, many have a hard time with that statement LOL. Great job

Excellent series of photos, love the 32 mm renderings. I see everyone everyone there walking around with no coats enjoying the weather. A little different than my part of the world. I just got back in the house from blowing a foot of snow we got last night and expecting more this afternoon.

Best to you and yours

Re: 32mm - City & Street Photography (Set 4)

Beautiful pictures Marco! I also own this lens and it is amazing, very sharp and fast but I still prefer my 22mm, not because it is better but because of the FOV. I try to use them both but for my shooting I always end up with the 22mm. I am going to Prague this week and I wanted to use only one of them. I haven't decided yet so probably I will take both with me

I completely understand why the 22mm can be preferable. I was personally surprised that my shots of the Silver Jewellery came out because I prefer the 22mm FOV for food photography and that's usually quite close up. In fact I swapped lenses just to photograph some food a couple of weeks ago. But overall, the 32mm has more flexibility in low light for me. And the slight increase in the focal length is handy for enhancing subjects just slightly too far away from me that a wider lens might otherwise fail to impact with. Of course, for landscapes and architecture, wider is almost always better. Though that's what I use the 11-22mm for these days. I have to admit that whilst the 22mm is a VERY sharp lens, I hardly seem to use it these days - though it remains my best Astro lens right now.
