Sony zeiss 24-70 f4 vs sigma 35mm art 1.4

So i have a a6500 and im debating between either getting one or the other or maybe both. To give you all a better feel to where im coming from. Im a vlogger and ive seen reviews of these lens on youtube and im very fascinated. I love background blurs and crisph potraits and high quality videos, almost film like. Which lens would be the better option for me? The 35mm looks amazing to the point where i made ny decision but then came along the zeiss and it blew my mind.

Sigma 30 mm f/1.4 is a much better fit if you like background blur. But as a vlogger you would use a tripod. What focal length (zoom setting) are you using today on a zoom?

The 24-70 f/4 definitely not - for background blur you need a wider aperture. Perhaps the Sony 35/1.8 or 50/1.8? They have stabilization.

Today i have the 18-135 but its a completely bigger lens and i hate carrying it around. I thought the 24-70 and the 35mm would be lighter. Honestly with my type of content i rarely zoom in on anything. I just like tv/film crisp quality type lens

The Sigma 35mm 1.4 Art (full frame lens) is more that twice the weight of the 18-135 and 50% longer, it does not fit well the APSC bodies. It's also a DSLR lens with a built-in adaptor, it is front heavy.

As Sympa suggested, the Sigma 30mm 1.4 DC DN is a much better fit, it's built for APSC mirrorless what makes a huge difference in size and weight.

So do you think id get the same crisp video and potraits if i were to get the 30 instead of the 35? What type of lens would you recommend

The 30mm seems very popular but I don't have it so can't really comment on it. But I have the 35mm and an a6300 and I wouldn't really use both together because of the weight and size. Even on the A7 bodies the ART lens is huge and heavy.

Have you heard any reviews on the zeiss 24-70?

The Zeiss 24-70 is not that well reviewed. It was of of the first full frame lenses from Sony. And why would you take it, it is only f/4.

I'll admit im quite the novice, in regards to lens selection. Sometimes i see the reviews on YT and what quality videos are shown and base my decisions off of that. I've heard nothing but great things fron zeiss, but im definitely searching for that lens that will give me powerful portraits and sharp videos beyond belief. Do you think im being realistic?

I bought the Sigma 35/1.4 ART FE about a couple months ago. I absolutely love the bokeh of this lens. It's sharp even wide open and the colours are a tad warm compared to my Zeiss and Sony-Zeiss lenses.

The only drawback of this lens as a few already mentioned is its weight. It's a heavy and bulky lens. Thus I decided to buy a battery vertical grip for my A6500 to balance it out nicely. I also shoot with the Batis 85/1.8 which is just as heavy.

Let's answer some questions:

  1. What lens are you using today?
  2. If the lens in (1) is a zoom, what focal length do you use?
  3. What parts of the lens in (1) are you unhappy with?
  4. Do you vlog outside or inside?  What lighting?
  5. What is your budget?

The quality of your video depends much more on lighting and technique.

"Zeiss" is a brand. There are many good lenses with that name on them, but also a number of mediocre lens models. But again, lighting and technique is most important.

So, again I can ask: what are you using now? Can you show some of the results you are not happy with? Or perhaps point us to a sample that you like to re-create with regards to quality?
