So you are doing finger sync.  You do know, I assume, that the "Dual Hero System" (DHS) for the GoPro 3+ black will give you perfect sync, both stills and video.  I've picked up complete, NIB DHS kits on eBay for less that $50 and have been buying refurbed 3+ Black cameras for $40 a pop.  While the lens spacing on the DHS is very close, there is a simple modification that can be made to the sync cable to give normal human eye spacing.  But given the extreme wide angle lens on the GoPro, getting close to your subject is usually desirable in which case the tight interocular of the DHS is quite appropriate -- particularly underwater.

I like your stereo rig but I think that the stereo base is too big (distance between lenses)

I just return from diving and I take photos of my rig with 2x GoPro 4 silver.

They are in the original waterproof housing and the holding case that I design and printed allows to trigger the 2 cameras with one press of the trigger.

Underwater I add 2 reddish filters for better colors.

You can see the pictures in this forum.

The small white spots is saltĀ

Re: me with GoPro stereo-rig 3D

20cm or 8 inch is for me not a too big base.  Only 10cm gives not so good depth

I have tried out several distances 20cm works for me very wel. Only the distance to the object is about 6 meters  (1/30 rule)

It is not always possible to be close to the objects (Zoo)

Re: me with GoPro stereo-rig 3D

If you can do a good sync, it should be reasonable. What I've done on non-sync cameras is to make a loud noise, like a clap after I press both buttons. All noise typically has a peak that can be easily synced in a good editing program. However, after I discovered the Gopro 3+ setup, I have used only that.

Here is a simple 3D printed frame I had made for me (my design) along with an adjusted sync cable that I patched (open it up and cut a slot in in the other side and run the wire through it and patch the original side). This extends the cable very easily without damage.

Simple dual wide/narrow frame with tripod mount and back mounted cameras-lock piece.

Two 3+ gopro cameras set to 2.7k Narrow for best reasonable image. Two sync cables, one modified for wide separation.

Wide separation mount. Note two control holes. Using modified sync cable.

Front view of wide separation mount.

Basically, just flip case left to right and push in cameras from the other side and use a regular cable, though a modified cable can work. The back clip is mounted to keep cameras from sliding forward or backward in the mount causing alignment issues. Regardless, due to anomalies in 3D printing, you will still need a good post processing editor (ie. Edius) to align properly.

My experience is that although the wide separation creates more depth it also creates miniaturization of the image. And actually, due to the wide angle of the lens, the original separation appears more correct and the depth is really ok.

I used this extensively on my trip to Tanzania, Africa in 2016.

Here I'm doing the jumping dance with the Masai tribal women. You can see the still camera (Panasonic ZS100) and the Gopro cameras case, plus it has a strap holder on each side. Very easy to carry around.

Looks very nice but I need a rig that works underwater down to 30m. More the GoPro 4 silver cannot be synchronized.

The GoPro's own Dual Hero System (DHS) would certainly be the way to go.  You definitely do not want the previous iteration called "3D Hero System" which does not have very good sync.

These 3D underwater videos were filmed with the Gopro 3+ system with underwater case. Because of restrictions with youtube these days. They don't download to a PC without issues. They do seem to work with 3D projectors, though. Both 3D and 4K 2D versions.
