If you could only have one lens, which of these zoom lenses would you choose?

Thanks for your answer.

You need to narrow this down for different applications/types of photography.

It is the 18-55. How about also including 15-45 & 16-50? I have the 18-55 & 16-50. Both perform to my satisfaction.

I only think of those three lenses. I do not want others. Thanks for your reply.

Thanks for your answer.

Your question as asked with regard to general purpose zooms, for me only leads to the 16-55/2.8.

Once you add in reach capability you have another bunch with different specs to choose from.

I use only one zoom lens - the 16-80.

Bought it last week and I am very satisfied with the results. My other 2 lenses are the 35/1.4 and the Zeiss Touit 12/2.8.

I still have the 18-55 because I might use it one day together with my Xe2s when I want light and small.

Thanks for your answer.

I would rather do studio, travel, architecture and landscapes with one prime.

A bit narrow to simply put 3 zooms up as choices.

I could give you gazillions of examples where I have used just one prime for the above mentioned applications, so have some idea what I could do with just one lens.

Good luck with your choice

Zooming by feet and by cropping with my XF16mm f/1.4... if I can bring only one lens for street and travel.

Are you asking if it’s the only lens you’ll have? If so the 16-55. If not, I’d base it on the other lenses you have.

Depending on size of studio: prime lens, 50-140 zoom, or both.

and travel photographic photography.

Prime lens.

I agree and I'd add budget.  That said, I did vote.

16-55 is the best for stills but the heaviest and most expensive. No OIS really hurts for video. If you were treating me it would still be my choice though

My favourite zoom is the 10-24.

If I had to pick one, I'd probably pick the only one I decided not to get..the 16-55F2.8

An OP asks:
"Which of these three Ford pick up trucks should I get?"

Ford Lariat?

Ford 150?

Ford KIng Cab?

DP gang replies : Ford Mustang.

If I’m only allowed to have one...and I have to use it for everything... the 16-55mm 2.8.  But since I don’t have that restriction... I’ll buy the 16-80mm F4 for when I’m not using my primes.
