I see that no one has responded in a while.  I don't have either camera, but I would recommend getting one of the cameras that have an "i" in it; that would be the Canon T2i, T3i, T4i, T5i, T6i or T7i.  Also the Canon 77D, SL1, SL2, or SL3 would be good.

The Canon T6 or T7 does not have built-in dust sensor protection.  Yes, they are less expensive than a new T7i (800D) camera for example, but in my opinion, look for one of the better DSLR cameras.  Read the reviews on the internet, to get more details.

You can often find good deals on the Canon refurbished website.  The cameras are practically new and tested.  You might consider a mirrorless option.

I have the T6, it's a good budget camera. The T7 has some extra pixels (18mp vs 24mp) and if the difference in price is not too much, it worth it for cropping, but the image qualitiy is very similar, since both use the Digic4+ processor.

I chose the T6 over a more expensive camera because I was getting into the system, so I wanted to invest in glass rather than the body itself. I believe that the T6 with a 24mm 2.8 and a 50mm 1.8 gives me better results than a T6i or a T7i, for example. And I can always get a second hand body in the future.

A brand new Canon T7 is about $200 (USD) less expensive than a Canon T7i. What's the reason that you can get better results out of a camera that is substantially less expensive? Or can you share with us what you mean by better results? Do you have experience using both cameras?

It's been some time since I've read the reviews. So, I just spent a few minutes looking at "Canon T7 versus Canon T7i" comparisons. The Canon T7i is greatly better in many ways. Have you read any of the reviews? The only advantages for the Canon T7 are size, weight and price (that I remember reading). Other than that, it is vastly inferior. What other advantages would you find?

What tuliof is saying is that you will get better results with a less expensive body and better lenses then you will with a more expensive body and the kit lens.

Basically, the lens has a bigger effect on image quality than the features of the camera, so you are better off getting a less expensive camera with a more expensive lens.

Let's say you have $1,000 to spend, you will get better pictures by spending $400 on the body and $600 on a lens then you will spending $800 on the body and $200 on a lens.

Thanks for the explanation.  The difference in price between a Canon T7 and T7i is only about $240 (USD) from what I saw on one website.  From my perspective $240 is so minimal compared to the advantages that a person would get from the better Canon T7i (800D) camera.  I just hope that people understand that.  Better glass is fine too.

Okay, so we all must remember that not everyone lives in the US or Europe. Here in Brazil I bought the T6 and the 55-259 STM, 24 STM and the 50 STM for less than the T6i and way less than the T7i.

I got a very good deal on the T6 with the 55-250 (about $210, new), the 50 and the 24 were about 100 each. I even bought a Epson printer for casual printing of  the pictures (a 3150) for about $100. Everything got around $510. The T6i is around $500.

But what this story doesn't tell you is that dollar is extremely valued over our money, so a difference in a dollar for you guys is 5x more significant for us, so a $100 change is a R$500 change for us and thats a lot.

In the end, this set works for me better (and I can get better pictures specially with the 24mm that is a gem) than if i got a T6i or a T7i.

I might get a SL2 in the near future, as prices are dropping significantly.

Yes, that's true that things are different in other countries. However, I would never get a DSLR camera without dust sensor protection. And the T6 or T7 does not have that protection.

I am still using my older Canon T2i (550D) and T3i (600D) cameras with dust sensor protection. I have never had to clean the sensor myself in about six or maybe seven years. About three or four times, I would notice a dust "bunny" in my pictures (from the Canon T3i (600D) or Canon T7i (800D) cameras), thinking that I would have to clean the sensor (or have it done professionally by someone else). I leave my lenses attached to the cameras so dust on the sensor is minimized. But dust still has a way of getting inside the camera. But the dust is removed by the camera in a couple of weeks internally with this sensor protection.

I also had dust sensor protection on my older Olympus E500 and E510 DSLR cameras. Olympus at the time was known for having superior dust protection (so I heard). From my own experience, Canon seems to do rather well in that regard also (for the cameras that have it).

Do you plan to clean the sensor yourself? I understand that a cleaning kit to do that, is not too expensive. But I also heard that if a person makes a mistake they can ruin the camera. I read about it, because I thought I would have to do it. It turns out, I've never had to do it. I believe that the Canon SL2 (200D) camera also has dust sensor protection.

I take pictures almost every weekend and show them on the Show Your Snaps thread. Having a camera that is reliable and low maintenance is important to me. Saying all of that, I hope that I have helped you (or anyone else) think about what better choices you could have made (like getting the SL2), if you plan to take lots of pictures.

I have never have examined my sensors, so maybe I should still clean them. I don't know. But from what I've seen in my pictures (when I view them on the computer), having dust sensor protection seems to work and eliminate any dust "bunnies" that occur. If I did photography professionally instead of just as a hobby, I might clean the sensor myself regularly (in addition to what the camera would do). It wouldn't be worth it to take a chance and ruin pictures for the customer. But as a hobby, this works for me.

I had an old Olympus E300 and, even being basic and thirteen years old, had the dust supersonic wave filter, never had to clean the sensor. I've been using my T6 for exactly a year, and it's going strong, despite the lack of the sensor. When it comes the time, I'll do it myself because I feel confident doing stuff like that (and I'm able to accept the riscs), but I understand the concern, specially since it's a beginners camera.

For now, I'll keep blowing the dust, it seems to be working (and I avoid changing lenses in places that could be tricky)

I saw that you have the Olympus E300. From what I remember, that had the Kodak sensor like the Olympus E500. I never had seen a dust "bunny" on any of my Olympus pictures.

Good luck with your photography! Let's see some of your photos on the Show Your Snaps thread. Now, I have to talk myself into going outside today. It's cloudy with some rain (light sprinkles) and cold (about 41 degrees Fahrenheit with 90% humidity).

I also think that the T6 is the best value for money, which is why I still use this camera. At first I had problems with how to connect the Canon T6 to a computer, but I quickly figured it out thanks to the information on the site. I really like this camera in terms of picture quality. When I have time, I will share my pictures.

I have seen threads on DPReview that have been going for over 10 years with occasional posts.  One I appreciate in the Canon SLR Lens Forum is about tilt/shift lenses.   I and many other people use 20 year old copies and the older posts provided very valuable information.

As to the T7, I own one and generally like it.  It rarely gets discussed and if someone writes a post about it, I like to join in.  Sometimes I am disappointed with what I get out of the T7,  but sometimes I am very very impressed.  The T7 specs look pretty bad compared to any other recent or current rebel,  except of course the T6.  But it still can produce decent images, if you work at it.

Agree. If anyone has doubts or concerns about the Canon T6/T, take a look are Red's posts on the Wildlife forum and you will see one who knows their camera. People think have a $2,000+ body is required. Nope.
