Should not this image be disqualified after discovering that, its author has multiple accounts which allowed him/her to vote high scores to his own entry?

If tasad can find these "cheaters' why can't the folks who run this website find them?  ... and kick them out?

I suspect that anyone who would cheat by having many accounts would also be inclined to cheat by giving votes of 0.5 to good challenge entries.

It is a disgrace and a complete eye swore. Someone new visiting DPreview and sees this running on the Finished Challenges will question the notion of good Photography promoted by the site.

DPR requires participation (clicks) to sell Ads. The more accounts a member has the more clicks.

All the forum entries complaining about cheaters are clicks. Simply tapping a "thumps up" is a click.

More cheats, more complaints more clicks. Why would DPR want to mess with a good system?

Bravo! Good job!

Still, I think his/hers latest win should be brought down or disqualified.

And it was. Though I have no idea why one would even cheat in a contest that only managed to garner 10 entries. Not much fame in there. On the other hand, cheating would be pretty effective.

Frankly, given all the comments here I should be grateful my recent cat picture scored "only" 8th. It has deplorable image quality, moderate sharpness, blown highlights, a garish background, and comparatively low resolution because of having to crop a lot of stuff. I entered it on a whim because even though it was a rushed snapshot, I found it sort of cute and just wanted to see how close to last it would end up.

While I won't rule out that cheaters considered it safe to upvote this photograph for camouflage, the result made me a lot less certain about my ability to estimate what will score high here.

At any rate, I am grateful for people weeding out cheaters. It's probably optimistic to think one can get rid of all of them, but it's just a lot more informative to feel that one's placement (wherever it may end up) reflects more the opinion of many than the personal agenda of a few.

Great work 'tasad',  it makes you wonder also how much of these images are by that person and are not ripped off from other sources?

Thanks for your efforts to expose these sad people.

Cheers.

Well,l if the cheater is identified by EXIF and the EXIF fits the camera (not having, say, a resolution the camera does not actually have), then it's pretty likely that the images are genuine.

If I understand correctly, the problem here was several purportedly different persons using the same camera rather than a purportedly unique person using several cameras.

Where would be the point of pushing a photograph you did not make (and the marketing of which you cannot control) to win a contest under some account at best loosely associated with you?

I mean, there is a lot of "where is the point" involved anyway, but that seems like even more of a stretch.

I find myself sometimes giving "votes of 0.5 to good challenge entries" for various reasons.  I often find some of those I gave low votes to ending up higher than expected and vice versa.  That's sort of the point of voting: it's supposed to average out personal leanings.  If people are not allowed to vote according to their personal whims, it sort of defeats having an open vote rather than an expert jury.

I am fine with people giving one personal vote of 0.5 to good challenge entries.  But it has to be one vote per person.  That does not protect against mobbing, but if the typical mob size is 1, it may be a comparatively small problem.  And at least political pictures (which are most likely to draw spontaneous mobs) are not welcome.

True, but years ago I noted a striking similarity on the winning image to a Fuji competition of a girl image submitted, to that of another  image actually on the  official Fuji site.  I pointed this out to Fuji and the winner was immediately disqualified .

Following this a Canadian Pro pursued the entrant for using their image without authority.

There was a monetary prize here and it just showed that some people have no scruples.

If people are sad enough, they will try anything.

Fortunately DPR has no monetary rewards and the buzz here is to cheat better than anyone else for your own entry.  🙄

tasad does a great job, more power to his elbow. 👍

Cheers.

Just curious. If you give .5 to a an entry that you deem as "good",,, what do you give to entries that you feel are less than "good"????
