Regarding the voting.... The 1/2 star voter on the 3rd place photo gave low marks to many, including the 1st 2. He/She gave no 5's and many 1's and 1.5's but seemed to like some of the nicer photo's like the 10th place entry, but the majority were just low votes. That voter's opinions were just as valid as others. It wasn't someone voting down the good ones.

You worked it out using the "anonymized voter" method? How would you encourage this member to openly discuss the "rationale," forming the decision to award a particular vote, for a particular entry?

Yes. I can see the number of votes and if I spent a lot of time could see which photo's each of the anonymous names voted on each photo. I didn't go that far.

I reviewed your newly sprung (2012) series' forward. I might safely say that one member took you up on the "rules," and made a comment, well before the votes. Where the forward, might not necessarily be thought of as a rule, its premise, if enforced from the start of the challenge, might have attracted a different set of voters. Given these parameters, might not all entries have been disqualified?

This is an old series that had a lot of interaction. I just used it to add a couple of different challenges. I also just changed the series theme since Andre and I do not jointly work on them in the same manner.

Eg.; this is a still life. As a still life it totally deserves a "3.0". I expect a "5.0" from piñón (spelled correctly, by the rule for accentuation) lovers. I expect a "3.0" from turquoise lovers. And, a "5.0' from the Nestle's sleeper cell.

Which brings me to;

To Member "LaChien, and her/his sleeper cell". "La" is feminine; "Chien" is masculine. Nice concordance, grammatically speaking. You've 2,741 votes to your credit, in four years of membership. Would you please post a "myVotes" screen shot of a past challenge where you voted, together with a rationale/schematic that compelled your different awards?

If the attached is a still life, member lachien; would you please describe your schematic?

You are making a comment to someone that I do not think reads this forum. I would be surprised if you get a reply.

I am hoping that the dog voter block loses interest in the whole thing and does not feel the need to test our challenges further. All they will do is alienate people entering and hosts too.

Thank you, barb.

Have you had occasion to eat piñón?  No need to answer.

Cheers, abiquiuense.

Hummmm. That gives me an idea. Maybe I should get two or three new dpreview accounts so I can up-vote my selected images and maybe do better in the challenges. I really hate it when the voters don't recognize my obvious photographic talents!!!!!!!

I don't see the problem, you are probably referring to your "photo club" which is so impartial. I mean, it is so instantly obvious when horrible pictures end up top #10. I can instantly tell the fake patterns. I even programmed myself some anomaly detection systems. But one needs only something more simple, like calculating the probability of a distribution using chi squared.

Am I missing something here?

Money (or what?) must be very good for people taking such lengths of cheating in order to win.

I noticed in many challenges great photos being pushed back by poor crapy images of the likes you mentioned.

When I see this, I simply erase my photo from the challenge. Period.

I also was somewhat disturbed to read a post on the 1st place entry saying they and their friends would all be voting 5 on it.

This is one reason I advocate for participants and voters to restrain themselves to make any commentary on an entry during and  before the challenge is completely finish.

Hosts should contemplate the possibility of including this restriction in their set of rules.

Although I must admit that in this case, an almost slip of the tongue got a thief (or potential cheater?)  caught.

Is that vote rigging? Or is that someone really liking that style of a photograph? While I do not condone having friend groups vote up a photo, it appears those voters did vote on others, and gave pretty high marks for some as well.

I do not think the winner should be disqualified due to someone really liking their entry - and I do not think the submitter was related to the voting block- so it remains 1st place.

Personally, had I been a voter, I think I would have given that one a high mark. And I liked entry 2 a lot.

With that sad, have commented back to the person that was very excited about the 1st place dog. I can't contact the 7 '5 star' voters to see where they live, or if they are friends with the submitter, and I doubt I'll get a reply but I did let them know they have not helped in any way.

Yes, lets no allow talk and find better ways to justify and encourage cheaters. Maybe we could hide the good pictures. Or ban the person that just demonstrated with facts the rampant cheater. What else comes to mind?

disqualification is done

Tasad, you have proven lachein and rjd13 are the same account. I've DQ'd what they have entered in my past challenges.

I've just DQ'd the 1st place dog now because the voting was not legitimate now that I can see multiple accounts for 1 person. I do not believe the owner of the photo was involved and I feel sorry for him as he has been an upstanding challenge participant for years.

This is just so disappointing, but thank you for your research.

Thank you tasad for your diligent investigative work at dismantling cheaters. It restores some validity to the challenges and its participants.

And since the image above in question:

https://www.dpreview.com/challenges/Entry.aspx?ID=1124729&View=Results&Rows=25

had won a 1st position in the challenge ‘Like a Girl’ , should not the host verify its validity, and given its irregular voting pattern?
