Sometimes Olympus puts things back in firmware, too...
3

I've got a black E-PL10 in hand and am happy to confirm that aside from the slight tweaks to the Art Filter interface which Olympus has publicised (which are quite subtle actually), the proper electronic (silent) shutter implementation is indeed back for the PASM modes.  Also, which I wasn't expecting, it's picked up a set of options from the E-M1 II, E-M5 III, Pen-F and E-M1X - the three individual features you can re-enable for silent shutter use if desired - the AF confirmation beep, AF illuminator and (the most useful IMHO) TTL electronic flash functionality - though given that this model uses the 16MP sensor, the fastest flash sync speed for silent shutter is 1/20.  Nevertheless, nice to be able to use the flash with silent shutter in lighting situations that work OK with a slow sync speed.

Other than this, the E-PL10 is effectively the same as the E-PL9, with the rather abbreviated menu system and options which that model and the E-M10 Mark III both share.  The black model's glossy gunmetal paintwork on the top and base looks less convincingly like metal than the silver-topped E-PL9 colourways (I assume the silver-topped colours of the E-PL10 will look just like their predecessors in this respect) but it has a nice "stealthy" appearance overall - even the OLYMPUS PEN logo impressed into the leatherette has a dark silver colour.  The black leatherette has a similar texture to that on the E-M5 Mark III, so is grippier than the rather smooth E-PL9 - don't know if the white and brown versions of the E-PL10 are similarly grippy.

The camera's performance and image quality are just as good as usual from a 16MP Olympus.  Hopefully Olympus might consider porting the little functional improvement tweaks that the E-PL10 has into the E-M10 Mark III at some point via a firmware upgrade.  If not, I suppose they'll come in a Mark IV (or V, if the Roman IV is considered as much bad luck in Japan as much as the numeral 4!).

Yes, a software upgrade to add those functions back to the EM10 MKiii and E-PL9 would be welcome news.
