Canon m200 .CR3 import? What Canon did to us?

Does anybody know how to quickly import .CR3 created by Canon EOS M200 into any acceptable format? It seems nothing except Digital Photo Professional supports it. At least I couldn't find it. Adobe's Lightroom CC and Lightroom Classic seem to say that the format is not supported and Capture One doesn't have M200 listed on their supported camera list.

The problem with Digital Photo Professional is that it's VERY slow. One photo takes about 30-40 seconds to convert into a TIFF file that is 70Mb large! I import 100-200-300 photos from one photoshoot and it usually took minutes using Lightroom. Now it takes hours with a lot of stages and a crazy amount of space taken.

Also .CR3 is not viewable in Finder or Explorer on slightly older OSs.

Thank you!

It takes a little time for Adobe to catch up with their RAW converters.  Give it a few weeks, and watch camera RAW updates from them.  Until then, yes, you are stuck with the DPP software.

Use Adobe's RAW converter to create DING files, then you can edit in light room.

Otherwise you'll need a native CR3 developer like DXO Photolab 3, or the new Luminar 4.

+1 It takes a bit for 3rd party software manuf to catch up. It’s always been the case with new releases.

I do agree that I’m going to need a new computer sooner rather than later though!

I got my M6ii on release day this fall, and LR already supported its CR3.  Maybe that's because the 90D uses the same format and had been out for a few weeks.

Meanwhile, can't the OP use CR2 in the meantime?  Is MK200 CR2 supported?

Yeah I was surprised, the camera is out for a couple of months and it's not supported by anything. No, there's no CR2 option in the camera, only another compressed .CR3 (probably not supported either).

Adobe RAW converter says this particular CR3 is not supported (I tried different images)

Thanks! I will try it out.

Does Affinity have a batch convert option?

I’m not sure. I use the iPad version mostly. The desktop version is decent, but I haven’t played with it much. I will also add that the iPhone Photos app does a good job as well. Took these with my M6 ll in Mexico yesterday and did quick RAW edits when I got back in the ship.

Cool photos!

It seems that m200 produces a different type of .CR3.

I couldn't import it to iPhone Photos or any other app except Canon's Digital Photo Professional 4. Also Mojave on macOS doesn't display previews for those files. It seems there are different types of .CR3 files

Every camera has its own RAW conversion parameters, so even though it is a CR3 file, unless the software has the specific RAW conversion information, it won't open the file.  Patience until the RAW profiles are released is really the solution.

My Exposure 5 opens them no problem (after last update)

No surprises there - you are replying to a thread that is almost 1 year old. Most software has caught up months ago.

Did not pay attention... but the info could still be useful... to others.

Thanks Canon.

LR is updated to open .CR3 without converting?
