Welcome to The Weekly Image Thread

This thread will appear every Saturday (GMT) and is open for submissions and discussions about images and processing techniques until the next Saturday, or the new thread is started. If the thread is nearing full before the next Saturday, I may start a new thread and carry on until it fills or the next Saturday arrives and it is reasonably full in which case I will start another. Confused, so am I! From time to time the start could be delayed if I am unavailable.

Although this Weekly thread is in the Olympus SLR forum, we openly welcome users of all brands and models.

Please:

  1. Reply to this post and change the TITLE!
  2. Please reply to at least one other contribution, your replies encourage posters!!!
  3. If asked, please share your processing techniques or technical details.
  4. Please show the EXIF if possible. Please identify the lens used regardless of which camera was used to take the image. This helps people form opinions of the lens used with the body to possibly influence future acquisitions.
  5. If special lighting was used to create your image stating what was done may help others.

Thanks for joining and contributing this week.

Sunrise, familiar view
1

Well, got up, checked the thread, saw it was nearing full and I needed something for the new thread.  Walked down the hall and the weather was momentarily cooperative!  Rain is suppose to start this early this morning but we have had some nice sunny days recently while I was stuck in arenas which are not!  The snow has sublimed a great deal leaving only a couple of inches on the ground in most places now.  Currently just above freezing.

A beautiful sunrise, Andrew.  The first highlights the wonderful colours you enjoyed this morning.

It is still dark here in Nevada.

Re: Sunrise, familiar view

Thanks Craig.  I was up about 6 this morning, earlier than usual for me.  Sunrise I think is around 7:30 here currently but I don't know if it actually rose here or was obscured by cloud cover shortly after breaking the horizon.  Will have to go up and look as I am now holed up in the basement.  It is a walk out with an over sized patio door but the blackout drapes are closed so I have no idea what it is currently like out there.

I am beginning to think you do not sleep!  There was a time when I could get by on little sleep but that time has passed.

Attractive looking birds Harri.  I need to go and refill our feeders.  Thanks for the reminder!

Re: bullfinch

The male bullfinch is beautifully coloured Harri. Regular visitors to our garden in the summer but vanish at this time of year.

Lovely sunrise Andrew. Fortunately at this time of year it isn't necessary to rise too early to capture the sunrise.

I don't get a lot of sleep these days.

I am at the office.  Long day today.

Beautiful birds, Harri.

I haven't seen many bullfinches out here in the desert.

Winter Arrives in Glencoe
1

Some shots from a hike in Glencoe last week after a fall of snow.

Near the start.

Looking down  to the start. My car is parked lower middle.

Higher still and into the snow.

A little snow on Buachaille Etive Mor

A strong north wind was blowing across the summit and by this time I was wearing a down jacket, hat and gloves. I didn't linger very long.

Re: More From The Railroad Museum

Those are all great Craig!  Must be a treat to be there in the sun with those great old trains in action.  When we did the Alaskan Cruise thirteen years ago I wanted to take the White Pass & Yukon train excursion but our ship did not stop in the right port for that.  They have an excursion that uses an old steam train (premium pricing) but that is a storied narrow gauge railroad.  Weather there is a bit of a crap shoot though so one might pay the premium for a ride in the rain.

Re: Winter Arrives in Glencoe

This is a beautiful set, Dave.  Nothing like a bit of snow cover to add some drama to the mountains.  I can't say which I like the best--perhaps the third?

The one of your car is nice.  The roadway is great.

Your latest acquisition is producing very good results Craig. I may just buy one - in about 3 years time. I haven't over indulged in steam trains quite yet.

Thanks Craig. It was a great day out. Snow was still soft and not too deep. No need for ice axe and crampons yet.

I am very pleased with the new acquisition.  I like the camera a great deal.  Really well built.  The price was right--direct from Hong Kong.

You're tough guy to get out there with the axe and crampons.
