is the pen series still alive?

i sure hope so. i love my pen ep5 bodies. really wanted the new pen f, but i just didn't think it was worth the premium price tag given the incremental improvements. i'm hoping there will be a pen ep6 or something like that with the same build quality and materials. anyone know if oly will be making another iteration of the pen line?

Didn´t Olympus just introduce E-PL9 in the autumn 2018 and E-PL10 this autumn? Looks fairly alive to me if they keep pushing new models one per year. I had E-P5 as my main camera about 4 years ago but bought Pen-F as soon as it became available. Here in Finland the launch price of E-P5 and Pen-F (and E-M5 as well) were about the same (+/- 150€) so I don´t understand why do you consider Pen-F  more expensive give how much better and more advanced camera it is in every way.

Doubt there's a market for premium bodies lacking an EVF, torpedoing any E-P5 follow-on. Pen F price was basically on par with the E-P5 plus plug-in finder.

The line would seem fated to serve as simplified cameras for phone users. My preference would be continuing the Pen F....

Cheers,

Rick

As another E-P5 user (one silver, one black, swapped maybe 6 monthly to even out the wear) I would like to see a real E-P6, one as simple as same control layout, ditch the pop-up flash for a dinky pop-up EVF like Sony use on the RX100M6/7 cameras, update the image processing chips to latest and use the 20MP sensor of course. Done. I would buy one. Oh, and keep the tilt screen as it is.

There's more than incremental improvements but the flip-out-sideways screen turned me right off as I always use the screen and never the EVF, my VF-2 has not been used now for maybe near 4 years. The Pen-F was an almost successful experiment, and in the collapsing camera market there will be no more experiments.

As related elsewhere, I wandered past my local camera store and the usual large display of Olympus was in the window, I was surprised by the Pen-F as I hadn't looked at one for quite a while and it looked so darn square and old-fashioned and clunky and larger in my mind compared to my E-P5. I simply would not buy one based on that backward step in smoothness and looks now.

The Pen line seems finished apart from the E-PL10 being a warmed over copy of the E-PL9 and now shrunk back to Japan and Asian markets only.

They see the future in bigger profits on less sales of more expensive larger mock SLR shaped bodies as  the market that buys into system cameras now considers that to be a "real camera".

If you live in the UK and want to buy a PEN F you can here

https://www.hdewcameras.co.uk/olympus-pen-f-body-black-4595-p.asp

and here

https://www.hdewcameras.co.uk/olympus-pen-f-body-silver-10813-p.asp

It seems to have gone down by £20 since I bought my second body from them.

When traveling this summer I checked what cameras other tourists use. I didn't see many MFT cameras, but most of them were Pens.

Of course I don't know Olympus' plans.

What I did realise was the impact of Sony FF. Of course there were many DSLRs, but nearly the same number of Sonys.

Both are using old 16MP sensor and bring nothing new. There was little change in E-PL since E-PL5.

Pen F is fine and all but it is as big as E-M5. Would love something smaller. Shame E-PL series stagnated.
