X-E3 Ergonomics

I've shot with an X-T20 before and it felt too small without an additional hand grip. I just couldn't really get a good handle on it. If I were to shoot with an X-E3 would I have the same issue? I understand the X-E3 is even smaller but I was wondering if somehow the ergonomics is more "balanced" so it could possibly feel better in my hands?

My hands are on the the smaller/medium size. I have an X-T2 and I can shoot perfectly fine without a grip. So I'm wondering about the X-E3 to go even more compact.

I don’t own an X-E3, but I’ve used one. Because of the offset EVF the handling is different than the X-T20, and if you are left eye dominant your face might be a bit less squished, but having large hands, the X-E3 still feels too small without an additional handgrip - and the lack of a d-pad is a dealbreaker for me anyway. You should really try to get a hold of one yourself, these things can be very subjective. Personally, I think most of the Fujis  greatly benefit from a handgrip, including the X-T2  ( I highly recommend the Meike). I like my X-T20 with a grip, still very small and light, but the handling is better by several orders of magnitude.

With the lighter lenses, i.e. XF27 f2.8, or XC lenses, it doesn't need a grip.  But I found that the MetroCase grip is just about perfect for best control and ergos, and it only weighs 1.5 oz.

Yeah I figured it’s too small. Can you use the joystick to navigate through the menu or do you have to use the lcd touchscreen?

I use mine with a leather half case and find it very comfortable to hold with small primes - the handling is excellent. I’m sure it would be fine with lenses up to the size of the 18-55. With bigger lenses you really just hold the lens instead of the camera using your left hand to take most of the weight.

I use mine with the touch function switched off and the navigation via the little rocker button is fine. To me it’s just fine and I’m an XT user too. The design is best suited to to right eye use.

You use the joystick and the still-existing OK button.  The menu doesn't respond to the touchscreen, unfortunately.

You can use the joystick for the menus, but you're stuck with the touchscreen for custom functions, which, if you're left eye dominant and have a nose on your face, is mostly worthless.

I owned the XE3 and sold it some time back to fund some other camera purchases. Recently I got the XT30. I would say they are very similar in terms of size. They are a bit differently constructed, so you might find one more comfortable than the other. For me, the XT30 has the edge - the layout and ergonomics just work better for my style shooting, size of my nose, whatever.

But in terms of the size, they are very very similar. Both are quite puny. I added a meike grip to both which helped some. I do have small hands so like the small size personally.

I have also an older  X-T1   and it feels a bit better with the grip it has. BUT - X-E3 is quite nice in real use.  With a lens like 18-55 OIS  it is very balanced. And my fingers are not short...

The lcd is touch sensitive and  Q menu can be used quite easily . The "swipe" movement to use some functions is a bit strange when you use it the first time.

Quality / price is also quite balanced IMO

I owned and used the xt20 for over a year and then tried the xe3 and got that as it feels less cramped and the joystick is great. Sold the xt20.

I also tried a grip on the xt20, didnt fix the issue for me. ( i still have the xt20 grip in a draw for some reason..)

The xe3 really is better ergonomically as you have more space and feels more comfortable to me. no dpad isnt an issue for me.

Main issue is the lack of tilt screen...otherwise its an improvement over xt20 imo if your ok with EVF on top left corner.

I could be wont be getting an xt30, i do want and xe4 with tilt screen and better eye point though.

Try before you buy, as we are all different.
