Hello, I bought a Nikon SB 700 flash for use with my D850, but flash control option under photo shooting menu greys out when I put the flash on the D850. I am able to use the flash by using flash settings on the flash. However, when I try to use the flash as an off camera flash by using Hahnel Captur Transmitter and receiver connected, the flash can only be used as a manual flash, but not on TTL. Can anyone please comment and throw further light on these issues? Thank you.

For full compatibility with the D850 I think Nikon want you to buy a SB5000 flashgun. The link below leads to a Nikon camera/flashgun compatibility document.

Also, you may find this DPR thread illuminating:

I have no problems using this combo. Does your Hahnel trigger even support TTL? After having a quick look at the manufacturers website , I don't think so.

I use the Hahnel tuff TTL, which obviously does support TTL and it works fine.

The only flashes that can be controlled by the camera are the SB-500 and SB-5000.

Your SB-700 will still work fine, you just set it up from the flash itself.

Using the D5/D500/D850 camera’s menu to control Speedlights is only realized by using SB-500 and SB-5000 Speedlights. Using previous Speedlights does cause this part of the menu to be greyed-out. Nikon has done a poor job, in my opinion, of publicizing this change, which started with the D5 and D500.

As rumple has already indicated, your SB-700 is compatible with your D850, except for being unable to use the camera menu to control it.

I know nothing about your Hahnel system, so cannot comment on it.

By accident of availability, I learned to use Canon and Nikon DSLRs at the same time. I love specific lenses made by both Canon and Nikon, too much to quit either system. Dabbling with Leica-M is fun, too. I am, certainly, not an expert.
