You are correct.

If I want to link to a pbase image when I'm responding to a comment on pbase if I want the link to be active I have to remove the "s" from the https.

Any link placed in a description on pbase will not be clickable unless that s is removed.

It still doesn't work after removing the 's'.

Did you copy and paste it into the url box of your browser?

It worked for me in Windows 7 and Firefox, but I just updated to Windows 10 today and haven't tried it!

That's what I did, yes. Cutting the s off https in the browser window. Using Chrome browser.

I'm using the latest version of Firefox in Win 10. Removing the "s" got me to the linked page the other day, when I tried that, and again just now. I did notice that on landing on the linked page, the "s" showed again at the pbase page. You might want to give the folks at Google a heads up about this.
