I have 22mm and 18-150mm and just recieved the Laowa 9mm, they are so different, it is not possible to tell one is better than the other.

I know. It's almost impossible to choose only one. I wish the polls could allow multiple choices.

Yes, the AF mechanism is a bit slow, noisy, and fragile. Yes, the vignetting is pretty high and the corners are soft wide open. Yes, the Canon hood is an extra expense and is worthless. It is not an "L" lens, very far from it.

But, none of that matters. This is the closest thing to a universal lens in the lineup. It is the smallest and lightest lens which makes carrying it very easy. It is one of the least expensive lenses in the lineup. The 32mm f/1.4 and the 22mm f/2.0 are the only two lenses I would consider using indoors in low light. However, the 22mm focal length means you are much less likely to literally get backed into a corner than with the 32mm. The minimum focus distance is only 15cm. Even wide open, the center is quite sharp.

The image quality is good enough and it is the only lens in the lineup that I know I could take anywhere in the world, at any time, and get a very good photo. Some of the other lenses are nice too, but they are either too dim and/or the focal lengths would put my back against a wall.

Re: Poll: Your favorite EF-M lens

I bought the M100 with the 22mm f2 and I have no plans to get another M lens as I just love the performance of this little lens. Sure, the 32mm f1.4 looks tempting, but it's a bit bigger and not my most used focal length.

I shot a confirmation with the M100 and the 22mm and it performed well beyond what I had ever hoped for under tricky lightning situations.

Now I am contemplating to sell off my 80D and all the other efs lenses I own and just sticking with the M100 and the little pancake.

pancake 22mm is so versatile that it can be the only lens most people will need. Thankfully, I don’t have to choose and get to enjoy 32mm, 11-22mm and 55-200mm.

Re: Poll: Your favorite EF-M lens

If i was allowed to use only one ef-m lens with my M50 and no other lenses i would choose the 32mm f/1.4.

If i was allowed to use only one ef-m lens with my M50 together with other lenses i choose the ef-m 11-22mm.

If i was allowed to use only one lens with my M50 regardless if it was an ef-m lens or another i would choose the sigma 18-35mm f1.8 art.

I'm curious. Is the 22mm f2 lens really slow for auto focus and noisy? Is the 22mm lens slower in focus compared to the 15-45mm kit zoom lens? Is the 22mm lens noisy enough for the focusing sound to be recorded in video either with the internal mic or an external mic? I'm considering getting the 22mm lens so that's why I'm interested. Thanks!

The 22mm is not awful in any of these regards, but it is not as fast or quiet as the other EF-M lenses.

Wow, that's.............disappointing!   I would have thought the 22mm lens would be fast and quiet since it's so extra small. I've never tried the lens in person before, so I really don't know. I only have the 15-45mm zoom lens at this point since it came in the kit box. I want something faster for low light.

I do not believe that the focus speed of the 22mm lens is noticably slower than the 11-22mm lens.

And if it is...I haven't noticed it.

EF-M 22mm, like other EF pancake lenses, use a gear type STM, which can be made small but not particularly quiet or fast. The zooms use lead-screw type STM, which is faster (not as fast as USM but good enough) and quiet.

Aah, thank you. I had to do a Google search to convert meters to inches, which comes out to 5.90 inches. At 5.90 inches closest focusing distance, that's not exactly very close, but not bad either. I was reading a review earlier that the 24mm Canon lens can focus within a couple inches, but that requires an adapter. My facts and memory could be wrong, by the way.
