need species ID - sponge?

I came upon this odd-looking ... stuff on a dive in Roatan recently.  Looks like maybe some sort of sponge.  Alga? Any idea?

Perhaps a form of Fire Coral?

I've just been looking through my Reef Coral book (Human & Deloach), and perhaps this is a form of Fire Coral just getting started?

I've also just looked through my copy of Reef Creatures, and I can't find any sponges that look like this thing, so my guess is some form of coral now.

and the answer is - Branching Anemone

I guess maybe several anemones clustering together.
