I trust Canon that they will do their research. Those lensbuilders are not compromising anything, so also no dust possibilities.
I'm curious what this lens build will do with the in lens stabilization. Maybe this is also 5 stops? Would be awesome :D.  Really curious what the features will be, they kept it crazy secret, maybe some closer focussing distances? I mean, it should have some extra tricks to convince the pro's to exchange for the new lens.

Although for me now, i have the 70 200 2.8 L II, there is really no reason to let that beauty lens go, it sits on my 5d mark IV and stays there. Buy maybe, if transfering to 2 eos R bodies, and money should be spent I can imagine i would sell my oldie.

Someone on another site mentioned the min. focus distance to be .7 meters.

Engineering is compromising - always. Its about rade-offs. Here compactness is winning, dust resistance loosing. You cannot have it all perfect.

All Canon needs to do now is come out with a new RF100-400 and RF200-600 (affordable) and the ProR down the line and they will much more effectively butt up against Sony. Another 1-2 years should prove very interesting indeed.

Name the gear and I've probably owned it and used it.

I haven't heard much dust complaints from EF 100-400 ii, and I would think it is used more in dusty environment / bad weather than 70-200 2.8? So if it's ok that 100-400 extends, what's is the bigger problem with extending 70-200?

I'm very tempted to swap my EF 70-200 ii to RF version, because of compact size in camera bag and high speed display with R. I'm using it mostly for sports, such as ice hockey. The only thing I'm worried at the moment is price...

The dust issue is only for forums not a real problem

Depends if one collects lenses or uses them ...

That looks impressively small! I never wanted the EF version because it was too big; now I’ll have to start wondering if my 2020 budget has room for this lens....
