macro ability of sx620 and sx720/30/40

Hi all.

I am interested in one of these models as a carry-everywhere for opportunistic insect photos, esp moths at night with flash. I've seen little written about whether one or more would be good choices for such things.  I have, however, seen a couple negative comments on their macros. Curious what users have experienced? Other cameras are sx520 and Lumix fz80. Similar results in something smaller would be great. Thanks for any input!

Imo u are going down the wrong path looking at these models for macro especially at night. The 1/2.3 sensor is not what u want. My sx730 does ok in very strong light for macro but there are much better options for macro. Look for 1” sensor models or larger with a good lens. I pasted some examples from my g7xii for examples below.

If u are really planning on shooting at night you might also consider a used full frame dslr plus inexpensive used macro lens. That may be out of your budget though at around $700.
