M50 = 18-150 C A and Barreling question

Hi my local store has this combo on offer but what bothers me is on a lens review site, the lens showed pretty grim distortion and C A , my question is does the in camera correction get rid of both. I used to use Nikons and their inbuilt  correction worked very well..

Thanks

I can't see any reason why the in camera corrections wouldn't work. If you are shooting Raw and using a third party converter the in camera corrections won't be applied and you'll have take care of that within the program you use.However Canons DPP will apply the corrections so no worries there.

It works to an extent, but the lens can be quite soft at the long end. Its usable but dont expect miracles at this prince point/size.

The camera deserves better glass, but it a handy lens to have if small, light and good lighting is the order of the day.

Thanks for the info, I really want a walk around lens and saw a comparison youtube vid that showed the 18-150 being a bit sharper than the 18-135.So looks like I'm beaten on that one.It seems lenses are Canons weak point.

I've read that too, but I have both lenses and the 18-135 that came with my 80D is definitely sharper. I haven't been using it on the M50 though because of the size.

So looks like I'm beaten on that one.It seems lenses are Canons weak point.

An 8.3x APS-C zoom lens at that size and that price will always come with compromises. In that regard every lens manufacturer will have it as a weak point.

Canon is actually regarded as a great lens producer. If you look at it objectively, the 18-150 is actually quite good for what it is: a relatively very compact lens with good image quality and a good reputation. But due to its 8.3x zoom and size and price there will always be a compromise. The compromise for this lens isn't actually all that big. If you don't want to compromise at all, well then good luck in your venture of looking for a similar lens with that IQ at that price and size point.

Ive got both and really, the 18-135 Nano USM wins hands down, especially at the long end. I only ever use the 18-150 for holidays, and even then only if size is really an issue.

I guess it depends what you prioritize. Smaller and lighter, or slightly better looking images.
