Well, while replying I realized I'm really a lens freak...

I love the tiny ones on the Gx80

-PL15 1.7

-P20 1.7

-Oly 45 1.8

On the g80 or g9, I also like using the 15 1.7, but also the PL25 1.4 and the Sigma 56 1.4.

Nah, just kidding !

  • Loawa 7.5mm F2
  • Oly 12mm F2
  • Oly 17mm F1.8

They're not perfect, but they are my favourite focal lengths and they are small.  What micro four thirds should be about.  I just wish the Olympus lenses did good starbursts.

Re: What's your Holy Trio? Primes.

What's your prime trio for ... whatever?

My three primes that get the most use are, in order:

  • 25mm Oly 2.8
  • 12mm Oly 2.8
  • 45mm Panny Macro 2.8

And the fourth is the Oly 75mm.

I tend to carry all 4 for travel. 2 on bodies (GX8, GM5 at the moment), 2 in pockets or a small bag. If I want to cut down even more, I will often take just the 12 and the 25. And for absolute minimal equipment situations, just the 25.

Well, this won't be much of a surprise.

Panasonic-Leica 15mm f/1.7

Panasonic-Leica 25mm f/1.4 (the original one)

Panasonic 42.5mm f/1.7 (which surprises me every time I use it, it's excellent. Better than I expected from a small, cute, inexpensive little lens).

Re: What's your Holy Trio? Primes.

I have a huge collection but rarely carry 3 at any one time. My go-to is usually the Xhongyi 25mm f/0.95 at night and the Oly 25mm f/1.8 during the day. When I go out with zooms I bring the 500mm f/8 which I can still use handheld.  When driving it's the 50mm f/1.4, sometimes with the speedbooster.

14-20-45 or 20-30-60

For flexibility, it would be :

  • P 14/2.5
  • P 20/1.7
  • O 45/1.8

But, my favorites are :

  • P 20/1.7
  • Sigma 30/1.4
  • Sigma 60/2.8

Also, I want to get the Sigma 56/1.4 before next Summer. I will see if 56mm is short enough to be more convenient than 60mm. (on MFT)

Samyang 12mm f/2

Meike 25mm f/1.8 (or the 7artisans 35mm f/1.2 if I think that I will need faster or longer)

7artisans 55mm f/1.4

All three fit in a Domke F-5XB along with an E-M10 Mark II body.

For small, it's going to be a set of Olympus f/1.8 primes.  I usually take the four.  On a recent concert shoot, I used all four in ascending order:

17mm f/1.8, 25mm f/1.8, 45mm f/1.8, and 75mm f/1.8.

Yes, I took the most photos with the 75mm.  That lens lets me get a better angle on the artists when they are on stage.

The last 2 arent easy to use but beautiful results.

Got the 15mm f1.7 coming so that might replace one.

Re: What's your Holy Trio? Primes.

Currently:

- Laowa 7.5mm f2

- Voigtlander 17.5mm f0.95

- Olympus 45mm f1.8 (but that is because I had to name a trio, most of the times I use the above primes augmented with the 12-40mm f2.8 and 40-150mm f2.8 fro Oly).

Re: What's your Holy Trio? Primes.

For the most part I just bring a twonity: Olympus 17mm 1.8 and Olympus 45mm 1.8.

If I think I might need it I'll bring my 60mm macro, and if I'm only bringing one lens, it'll be either the 17mm or the Lumix 25mm.  The Olympus 12mm, 75mm, Laowa 7.5mm and Mitakon 25mm are all on my shopping list, but I can wait amazing used market deals on those.

Re: What's your Holy Trio? Primes.

I use Laowa 7.5 + Mitakon 25 0.95 as my duo to complement 12-100. If was only to use primes I would add something small around 12-14mm to this.

Re: What's your Holy Trio? Primes.

Since I bought E-M1MkII in March I have been traveling abroad more than usually: Bangkok, Dalmacia, Transylvania, Mongolia, 4 times to Russia and next week I am going again to Russia, Mongolia and China too. Mostly I have had with me Zuiko f1.2 17mm, Zuiko f1.2 25mm and Zuiko f4 12-100mm and been very happy with this set.

But if I had to take only primes I would replace 12-100 with Zuiko f1.8 75mm.

I like also Zuiko f1.8 17mm a lot, but haven´t used it at all since I got the Pro 1.2 version. Also I have Zuiko f1.8 45mm, but that is probably my least used lens.

Re: What's your Holy Trio? Primes.

I usually travel with these.

O 17 f1.8 (all rounder,mostly use)

O 25 f1.8 (family/group portaits)

O 45 f1.8 (portraits)

But after reading some of the comments I will use the Oly 75mm instead of the 25mm and see how it works.

My quad

NoTx wrote:

Anyone else carry a small holy trio when possible, old school? For example, 3 primes for a full trip or to hit the streets for some photography trips? I noticed here that this forum loves the 7.5mm LAOWA. I was looking at my carry, and the only time I read the term holy trinity of lenses here, it was the first three pro zooms from Olympus. I would love to read about options for the prime shooters out there? I come from a Contax and Leica M background, so the primes are something that brings me joy to use. I am still excited because my old carry was significantly lightened up from my old film days.

My film to digital transformation... getting back to the old days. There were stops between..., but this is where I ended up. I am extremely happy.

  • Contax G2 605g to Olympus E-M1 497g
  • Contax G Zeiss Biogon 21mm f/2.8 180g to Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 12mm f2 130g
  • Contax G Zeiss Planar 35mm f/2 150g to Olympus M.Zuiko Digital 17mm f1.8 120g
  • Contax G Zeiss Sonnar 90mm f/2.8 190g to Olympus M.Zuiko Digital 45mm f1.8 116g
  • Total Weight 1125g to Total Weight 863g

So my holy trinity of lenses is obviously:

  • Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 12mm f2
  • Olympus M.Zuiko Digital 17mm f1.8
  • Olympus M.Zuiko Digital 45mm f1.8

What's your prime trio for ... whatever?

My basic quad for low light corporate event work has been:

  • Oly 12/2
  • Pan 20/1.7
  • Oly 45/1.8
  • Oly 75/1.8

Lately, though, I'm using the 12/2 on a GX9 and a 35/1.4 and 85/1.8 on Sony a7III & a7RIII. The a7RIII's crop mode turns the 35 into a 50 and the 85 into a 130. I still have my GX8 standing by with 12-35/2.8 for decent ambient light and/or flash shots.
