Anyone else carry a small holy trio when possible, old school? For example, 3 primes for a full trip or to hit the streets for some photography trips? I noticed here that this forum loves the 7.5mm LAOWA. I was looking at my carry, and the only time I read the term holy trinity of lenses here, it was the first three pro zooms from Olympus. I would love to read about options for the prime shooters out there? I come from a Contax and Leica M background, so the primes are something that brings me joy to use. I am still excited because my old carry was significantly lightened up from my old film days.
My film to digital transformation... getting back to the old days. There were stops between..., but this is where I ended up. I am extremely happy.
- Contax G2 605g to Olympus E-M1 497g
- Contax G Zeiss Biogon 21mm f/2.8 180g to Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 12mm f2 130g
- Contax G Zeiss Planar 35mm f/2 150g to Olympus M.Zuiko Digital 17mm f1.8 120g
- Contax G Zeiss Sonnar 90mm f/2.8 190g to Olympus M.Zuiko Digital 45mm f1.8 116g
- Total Weight 1125g to Total Weight 863g
So my holy trinity of lenses is obviously:
- Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 12mm f2
- Olympus M.Zuiko Digital 17mm f1.8
- Olympus M.Zuiko Digital 45mm f1.8
What's your prime trio for ... whatever?
Still have my Contax G gear, even if it's gathering dust. Those lenses, just amazing even if the 21 and 16 are hampered by the "bonus" viewfinder. The 45/2.0 Planar is worth adapting to m4/3, but I haven't found an adapter that fits on E-M1s because the faux pentaprism front overhang doesn't clear. The 90 Sonnar also adapts nicely but requires quite a bit of CA cleanup.
Guess if you made me pick just three I'd go 12/2, 17/1.2 and 75/1.8. I also have 25/1.8, 20/1.7 and 45/1.8 but they don't "spark joy" like the other three.
My dark horses are the 4/3 150/2.0 and 300/4 Pro. Hey, they're primes! Just not light, but each wins a Best in Show ribbon.
Cheers,
Rick
