Very good cheap hard cases.

Harbor Freight has the Apache 4800 hard case on sale for $44.99.,923,911,445

It's just a little smaller than the Pelican 1550, has 2 more clasps and is around $125 cheaper. I have 3 of them and 1 large Pelican for a while now and the build quality looks about the same to me.

Re: Very good cheap hard cases.

can you tell how light or heavy they are compared to pelican/ nanuk.

I have one of those cheap ones from a local hardware store brand and it is atleast twice as heavy. Other than that who knows if it is as drop safe as the name brands.

But I wanted something inexpensive to keep my gear at home or occasionally takeout to my car so these serve the purpose.

Thank you

Re: Very good cheap hard cases.

I have been using an Apache (HF) case for about 5 months now and it has been working well, but the foam leaves a little to be desired.  I don't know if Pelican foam is the same or not.  Sometimes the squares break loose when you don't want them to.  I might look into replacing the foam with something better, but the rest of the case is great for the price.  I've purchased two so far and no regrets.
