If there is no M5 II... again
2

I do not say that there will not be M5 mark ii. But what if there is no M5 series any more? If it is the case, what would you choose?

- M50 series with EVF and articulated LCD but no many control dials or
- M6 series with many controls and flipped LCD but no EVF.

As an M5 user, I am torn between two.

As another M5 user, I stated my requirements and desires here > https://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/63115827

If the M50 met my requirements, I would already have one. It falls short for me in the video implementation, whereas the M6II would be very acceptable based on the few samples I've seen. I still need a built-in EVF, period. I had the optional EVF on my M3 and really didn't like it at all. As I stated in the other post, the decision for me now is to do without, wait and hope that there is an upgrade for the M5, or leave.

You are missing a fourth option

The choice to "leave the M system" has been voiced by many in these discussions and is absent from your poll.

Yes. I missed that point. It is perhaps because I have had no intention to leave Canon at all since I put my first step into Canon ecosystem with EOS 5 and EF 50mm 1.4 long long ago. Sorry that I am not able to change my post.

Another option is to move away from the system.

That said im still hopeful a proper APSC mirrorless from canon will come up next year.

As an M5 user, I am torn between two.

I'm getting the M6 Mark II in the meantime.

for the most part it's "good enough" and since I have the EVF-DC1, I get a tilting EVF, which adds a little more benefit for when I want to take pictures lower to the ground, I can still use the EVF.

I'll miss the direct EC dial though, even though there sounds like there's multiple ways of quickly doing EC adjustments.

The M6 Mark II is around 850 bucks, I figure if the M5 Mark II comes out in 6 to 12 months I should be able to sell off my M6 Mark II for at least half of what I paid.

so that's in reality, around $35-$70/month of a lease price, which is fine for me.  I need some specific features in my EOS-M's that my current M5 does not have, so it's a mandatory upgrade before February of next year anyway.

I will add a system without leaving.

You mean you're hopeful that an APS-C mirrorless with the features you want will come next year. The M6II is definitely a proper mirrorless. You aren't the center of the universe, and your preferences are no more the standard of what's "proper" than are Thunderstorm's or mine.

As the length of a thread approaches 150, the probability that someone will make the obvious "it's not the camera, it's the photographer" remark approaches 1.

Hmmm. I can be quite patient. I'll have to bookmark this thread so that if the M5ii arrives within the next year, I can return to get your M6ii at half price!!! And hopefully, you can throw in the DC1 as part of the deal.

Uncalled for and an over reaction. Not constructive.

TBH if I couldn't choose to comment in the existing thread... instead to aknowledge the previous thread and continue to create another on the exact same topic... well then I wouldn't trust myself to make any good descisions on what camera to choose, I'd just let the guy in the shop do it for me...

I'd go for the M6ii

Everyone knows what they need, and tries to find the camera which best fits. As far as I am concerned, I need an EVF and a hot shoe for flash. You cannot have this with the new M6 Mk II, so I will stick with my M50. If an upgrade to the M5 or M50 appears then I will have to reconsider..

Use your M5.

what's wrong with it?

Wait and see what happens with the M50 Mark II or the M5 Mark II.

If you absolutely need the features in the m50 or the M6, then get it, and just be prepared to swap out.

The only real downside to the M6 + EVF is the hotshoe.  So keep your M5 for the instances where you need a hotshoe.

Or wait.

Just enjoying the speculation about it, I wanted to know others' opinions.

Wait and see what happens with the M50 Mark II or the M5 Mark II.

If you absolutely need the features in the m50 or the M6, then get it, and just be prepared to swap out.

I want M6's new AF, AF back button, and electronic shutter and M50's LCD.

The only real downside to the M6 + EVF is the hotshoe. So keep your M5 for the instances where you need a hotshoe.

Thankfully, the situation for me to use EVF and flash at the same time is very rare.

Or wait.

Even if M5 mark ii comes out, I will not be sure to buy it. Yes, I will wait as your suggestion. Thank you.

Maybe I am regarded as loyal to Canon. But it is totally because of my idleness to move to other systems. Moreover, in the long run, every system might be able to meet the some wants even if it is not state-of-the-art.
