Bought Samsung NX2000 camera without software - any ideas on what to use for editing the raw files? - would like non-subscription and budget of less than €200 - any ideas ? Regards Tim

First try free options - Raw Therapee and Darktable.

I use Polarr which is a much cheaper alternative to Lightroom, and is very comprehensive and easy to use.

However I don't shoot in RAW at the moment, although I'm pretty sure it will support your camera. Probably best to send them an email first or see if there's a free trial.

Have you tried the Samsung "Raw Converter", which probably would have been the original software? I've downloaded it from somewhere as my second-hand camera came with no software as well, though I'll admit to not having used it yet other than to ascertain that it works ... seems to do all the basic stuff

You can perhaps find somewhere selling old editions of Adobe's simpler "Photoshop Elements" software - which has supported your camera since PSE12 ?

Or just go straight in with the current version, some GB £80 currently - for which they offer a week's free trial, I believe...

Sorry, I just checked with my "Raw Converter" and your camera is not supported, however they do recommend using SilkyPix http://www.silkypix.com which may be worth a try.

Thanks - I hadn't thought of Photo Elements so I will definitely investigate ..

I will not be doing extensive adjustments so it should be suitable

Although I've taken the LR+PS subscription package [having started off with the LR5 that was bundled with my NX3000], and really love using the current version of Lightoom, I still turn to Elements 12 for many of the simpler editing tasks... it loads relatively quickly, with uncomplicated menus, etc etc!

All too many things to like about Lightroom, not least that you work in very much the same way with both RAW files and JPGs - getting more or less the same benefits with the latter that Elements offers in its "Open JPGs in Camera Raw" routine.

That screen name dates back to when I first joined DPR, while living on a verdant Italian island, down near Naples - but not as green as your own "Emerald Isle"!

Back in Norfolk these day, and frequently miss the sun and warmth...
