I got the viewfinder with the M3, i think i have used it around 10 times in total. Once on the M6 just to make sure it worked. I take photos daily and got the M3 on release from Japan.

I have other cameras that have EVF tho, so really only use the M6 as a compact cam, where lack of bulk is the main reason to use it.

I don't have an EVF, but I don't miss it.

M6 owners, how often do you use the optional viewfinder?
This question works very well even for M5 and M50 as well in a different way.

Bought the EVF bundled with my m6 and tried it out for awhile. I didn’t like it because it wasn’t matching what I saw on the screen nor the image taken. Canon didn’t acknowledge an issue and I didn’t use it much so I sold mine.

and a few others (well older models within the M43 line of cameras), adding the optional EVF's can be a huge plus for a number of reasons. So I'll use them when weather conditions are overly bright - thus making some LCD's unusable. But even with the EVF attached (in this case the M6), I really find myself using the LCD screen 75% or more of the time, so it's interesting really.

Now this new (pending - will be announced within the next several days), Fuji X-A7 will sport an LCD that has 2.76 million dots and is 3.5" in size with a vari-angle LCD screen. Lots of folks are looking forward to this one. In addition, a higher visibility is achieved with the LCD having a maximum brightness of 1000 candela (or did they mean candles). As you may or may not know, the X-A line features a bayer sensor (not an X-Trans sensor). I personally have enjoyed shooting with the X-A line.

I know this is the EOS M forum, but just for sh_t's and giggles (knowing that lots of folks here also use Fujifilm cameras), here's the new X-A7 specs:

Fuji X-A7 Full Specification
  • Newly developed approximately 24.24 million pixel APS-C size sensor
  • Improved image quality during high-sensitivity shooting compared to X-A5
  • Uses copper wiring that enables high-speed data reading
  • Approximately 8.5 times the number of image plane phase difference pixels compared to X-A5
  • Realized 4K video using abundant amount of information equivalent to 6K by reading all pixels of the sensor
  • Capable of shooting smooth 4K movies at 30 frames / second
  • 4K video can be recorded continuously for up to 15 minutes, and full HD / HD video for up to 30 minutes.
  • Equipped with “Countdown Video” function for the first time as “X Series”
  • Equipped with “HD High Speed Video” function
  • Equipped with 3.5 inch wide (16: 9) touch panel monitor of about 2.76 million dots
  • High visibility is achieved with a rear LCD monitor with a maximum brightness of 1000 candela.
  • For the first time in the “X Series”, the “Vari Angle Structure” that allows the monitor to be adjusted to any angle is adopted.
  • Lineup of “Scene Position” with “Light Trail” as “X Series” for the first time
  • Wi-Fi / Bluetooth installed
  • Input / output terminals: USB Type-C (USB 2.0 High-Speed), HDMI micro terminal (Type D), φ2.5mm 3-pole mini jack

Just a friendly reminder here homies - bear in mind that any posting of mine represents my opinion only - not those of other folks - nor am I implying that others will feel the same way that I do about a given issue or camera. I advance suggestions or information based on my having used a camera (or cameras) - not purely on blind speculation. However, If you feel absolutely compelled to argue about a personal opinion of mine, please feel free to go ahead and do so - without my participation of course - and that would be quite an interesting conversation to say the least.

I use the EVF most of the time when outdoors during sunnier days. For me, the screen is difficult to see adequately and not pleasant to use. I also have fairly strong corrections with variable glasses, which doesn't help.

Looks like a Leica Q minus the viewfinder.

I had the external viewfinder as it came with my M3. I was very excited to get it because at the time I hated shooting off the screen. After a handful of uses I decided I didnt like it. The view was ok but I always felt it was clumsy sticking way up there.

I bought it for my M3 as it was the first EVF I could actually use. I tended to use it from time to time, having moved from the M and being happy with the rear screen, but i fitted it to the M6 from day 1, and have actually used it far more often than I did with the M3. It's far too contrasty in bright light, but otherwise works well enough. I tend to only use the rear screen for high and low angles.

Looks good. I could have been interested in this camera if it had a "normal" tilt screen. Didn't the previous version have that? I don't like vari-angle screens.
