T1i question
1

I have an old T1i that I really like, but it has a peculiarity: The camera will not power on unless there is an SD card installed.  Is that normal for the T1i?

Also, the SD card release is a bit finicky.

I just tested my T1i and it does turn on when there is no card in the slot. It comes up with a "No card" message.  I cannot say that I find the SD card finicky to get in or out, but this is not a camera that I use regularly now, so it may get more difficult as time goes by.

Re: T1i question

Thanks!  I think the previous owner may have damaged the camera card slot, but it does still function.  I may use an SD adapter for a micro sd (TF) and just leave the adapter in the slot.

I like the T1i because it is a low noise champ with a larger photo pixel size than higher density sensors.  Though, Canon seems to have mastered noise reduction better than competitors!

That is a complete myth. Newer aps-c cameras have progress a good deal since your old T1i.

And yet the packing more megapixels into a sensor no bigger than that of the T1i results in increase noise. So if one were to look at it simply, older models such as the T1i (without the bells and whistles most people crave for and seldom even use) do a much better job when shooting at a higher ISO.

No, not normal, I think there is a SETTING for SD check

I had 3 Canon T1i over the years.  Its a good camera, probably the Lowest Canon DSLR I'm willing to tolerate.  As for the SD card issue, I think there is a SITTING for it.

1. Try CLEAR ALL SETTING under Red Menu

this should remove the SD check.  Anyhoot, I forgot what its call but its a setting feature to prevent absent minded people from shooting without inserting a SD card.
