Viewfinder mirror issue? Or mirror issue?

Hi guys!

I recently bought a second-hand Pentax k-50 to use as my backup camera.

I just noticed that when I'm shooting a single shot, after I compose the image in the viewfinder, the image slip up and then return to original pose. So also the picture I get is missing the top of image I composed.

After that, even if I'm not going on shooting, around after 10-15 seconds it doeas another sounds like the one you can hear shooting.

I removed the lens to notice this strange movement and I could see that, this sound after around 15 seconds happens because there's another movement of the mechanism without taking any image, like a double mirror flip.

The double mirror flip also happens sometimes when I turn off camera.

It seems it happens also with continous shooting but only with first picture.

Pictures are good anyway.

What is the problem?

What to do?

Can I rempair it myself? Should I take the camera at assistance? And do you know the cost apporximately?

Or should i give to seller back (paid with Paypal) ?

I think it was a deal because I got it with 3 batteries, some filters Cokin, teleconverter 2x Vivitar, 16 Gb sd card, with 111 euro ($122) in the auction.

So the cost of repair it's not much I would like to keep it.

Live view or OVF?

If it happens in Live View then its the sensor shift mechanism.

Re: Live view or OVF?

No, in Live View it doesn't happen.

Anyway, I would like to know if it's convenient to repair it or give to seller back or just sell as repair.

I din't pay it much. With lots of accessories I paid 111 euro

Re: Viewfinder mirror issue? Or mirror issue?

Does your lens have image stabilisation (IOS) built-in?

My Sigma 150-500mm makes noises and exhibits visual symptoms in the viewfinder like you describe, but I don't think it's actually caused me a problem yet, but maybe I'm not framing as tightly as you are

I tried with several lenses without OIS
