Help! My Minolta Xe-7 advanced lever is jammed

I recently purchased this camera in great condition at a garage sale. I put film in it and new batteries but i tried cranking the lever but it wouldn’t go all the way it just went half way and i don’t know how to fix it. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Could be the shutter is already cocked. Try hitting the shutter release.

Did it appear to work properly before any film was loaded?

I'm going from memory here. Release the film by pressing the button on the bottom. You should then be able to move the lever enough to cock the shutter, even if you have to move it twice. Then try using it again.

If you can't get it working properly with film loaded, you'll have to talk to someone who repairs cameras.

Batteries? Or film chip

Greetings

I would suspect there is a small piece of dirt or film chip stuck in the gears. In an area where it can't be seen. A good cleaning should fix your problem. In the film days I sent in my gear to be cleaned and lubed once a year, same for digital, although with digital it's cheaper to buy another one, like a TV. Your film camera has already out lasted most digitals.

If you still have not taken your camera to be repaired, look at this thread https://www.photo.net/discuss/threads/minolta-xe-1-film-not-advancing.5510262/

yours may not be exactly the same but it might just help in figuring out what is wrong.

First thing you could do, after remouving the bottom plate, is to gently try to wind the shutter keeping an eye on what cogs are moving and see if you can figure out where it gets stuck. Sometime it is just matter of flicking a lever out of place and then it will work again.
