Some Kruger Park Pics (G3X)
6

My safari is has come and gone and all I have left are some photos . I used my new G3X and found its IQ pretty good but still think it has an exceptionally bad autofocus and near useless manual focus. My experience with my old SX20 is was much better in this department and I had a lot less wasted photos with it. Hopefully there is a G3X Mark 2 in the future for my next trip.

Nicely done.  These look great to me. My G3X is quick and accurate even in the shade. Maybe it's your copy or technique. Either way the specs and size are unique to any other camera.

Nice shots. I’ve owned two G3X’s and sold both. My SX50HS’s autofocus was as fast or faster than that of either G3X and its size was comperable (particularly so with the EVF mounted). The overall image quality was comparable as well. I’m definitely looking forward to a G3X Mark II...hope it happens.

Thanks, The jackal photo was close to Mopani on one of the dirt roads. We saw Jackal seven times that morning was a good day. It was pretty good holiday actually we traveled the whole park up to Pafuri which was awesome. Probably filled about 5 32GB memory cards.

The reason I'm replying to your thread is, to give those reading your review another persons experience and perspective. Not that your review is wrong, it's just one persons experience and opinion. I absolutely think the G3X is the better choice since I have both the SX50 and G3X. I shoot 95% static subjects, so the speed of the focus is not of prime concern, but truthfully don't notice a difference. The sharpness however is comparable on my copies and the IQ is visibly better on the G3X. My philosophy on using the G3X : It's much easier to hand hold the G3X at 600mm than the SX50 at1200mm and get a sharper result in the process. If needed I have the flexibility to crop the G3X to the 1200mm equivalent or even farther with a better result. I put off buying the G3X for years due to reviews like yours.

Those photos are really nice ! Thanks for sharing. I may buy the new G5x but I am looking at the G3x also for its long zoom.

Very nice set of images. Seems you had a good time out there.

I read about the slowish AF of the G3X.

Seems a weak point of many Canons.

I love the color rendition and many other features of Canon cameras...but never praised their AF.

Behind the times in this area. Panasonic has better AF , IMHO.

Re: Some Kruger Park Pics (G3X)

Nice pictures , nothing wrong with the autofocus on my G3x.

At this present moment i'm looking for a replacement [broken g3x][ , defiantly wouldn't go for a small sensor camera their iq except in good light is terrible. The picture quality of the g3x is more like a full frame. And therefore to get better picture quality i'm thinking of getting the Fe 200 to 600mm when available.
