760d/ Rebel t6s seems to be breaking lenses

Hi,

I have a Canon 760d which I have got on well with. I have recently had issues with a sigma 18-125mm lens failing to auto-focus. I ended up buying a refurbished replacement identical lens of eBay which made a strange buzzing noise when I turned the camera on. Thinking the lens was faulty I sent it back to be repaired. The repairer said that they did not find any issues with it but changed the control board anyway.

Whilst waiting for it to be repaired I borrowed a friends kit lens. This took a few photos but then too stopped being able to auto-focus. When I returned the lens my friend tried her kit lens back on her camera and now finds that it won't focus on her camera either.

The strange thing is that I have two other lenses (basic 50mm canon and 10-20mm Sigma) which both work fine and will auto-focus, but which don't have image stabilization.

My question is: has anyone else had this issue (I haven't been able to find anything on this forum about it)? I now think that it is my camera that is breaking the lenses ability to focus and it potentially relates to the image stabilization. Could this be happening? My refurbished lens has been repaired and returned to me, my friend has checked the lens works on her camera but I am now worried that I should not attach it to my camera for fear of breaking it.

Thanks in advance for any comments or ideas.

You are more likely to have an issue with a 3rd party lens

To me it’s the camera rather than the lens(es).
