Canon G9x II. I am satisfied. How are you?
7

It's so small. Like a baby.

My hand is so large.

My thumb is almost 1/5 of the LCD.

But I [almost] have no problem with its touch screen.

Sitting at the balcony. Look at the world with tele view.

Then add the Olympus 1.7x Teleconverter ... for fun and joy.

#####

Now the wide end of zoom.

Not wide enough !

So I put the Ricoh GW 0.75x wide angle in front of it.

#####

Who says Pop-up flash is useless?

Raynox MSC macro closeup attachment at tele end of zoom. Kenko flash diffuser.

The rain just stops ..

#####

I am jogging in the park.

The G9x is in the right-side sport armbag, the [phone] mp3 player in the left. All those ILCs have to stay home.

###

Very small camera. Good for leisure time and relax moment.

Why do we have to serious about photo shooting every moment?

I now am very satisfied with it. How are you, the G9x owner?

I attach filter adapter (double sided tape) with 49mm filters. Easy installations, but I don't plan to permanently attach big stuff at front to avoid damaging lens barrel.

Khunpapa, which Raynox do you use, because I use DCR-150 and DCR-250 and find it's easier to do macro without those filters.

I have lots of junk zoom lenses (10 for $5). Disassemble one of them to its basic components. Choose one tube that's looked best.

// keep the glass elements for another fun projects //

This tube's bigger end is just a bit larger than the front dial size. Thus I decide it's body attachment. Simply glue any soft material inside it to make the tube tightly fit.

The smaller end is for "filter" adapter. The WA shown really can't work with this tube. Its rear is too much far away from the camera lens's front element. But no problem with the tele and macro.

The Raynox Macro (not shown) has  the universal automatic clamping design. Very easy to use with this tube adapter.

This WA lens adapter requires electric tape to stay on the tube.

No. It deposits those functionalities with its buddy : the smartphone camera.

I had the first gen Canon G9x and it was a fun camera for when I didn't want to bring my DSLR.  I ended up selling it when I got a Pixel smartphone as the difference in JPGs wasn't all that significant.  I'm still tempted by the G9x II and would probably get another if Canon did a Mark III that had dual pixel AF and 4k.

I recently purchased a G9X II after my S100 started failing after I dropped it.   It is pretty much exactly as I expected, both pro and con.

I love the size and I'm impressed with the touch interface.  I was worried my fat fingers/thumbs wouldn't do well with the interface, but I needn't have worried.  On the other hand, I need to keep my glasses with me to read the screen more than I did with the S100.

The trade offs are as expected: 28mm on the wide end, short 3x zoom, slow lens when zoomed in, no sweep panorama, only one custom setting.   But again, I knew all this going in.

The one somewhat surprise, how big the jpg files are.  Ahh well, it's just disk space!

Simply stated ... no surprises. I'm very satisfied with it!

On the whole, very happy with mine. The lack of a viewfinder took a lot of adjusting to, but  it's a lovely little camera and we use it quite a lot.

On the downside, the dust sealing is TERRIBLE. Crud gets in far too easily, and it is a non-trivial exercise to clean it. It's certainly not something you can do yourself. It cost around $300 to have it pulled apart, cleaned, and reassembled. (That's about $200 US.) Black mark Canon.

But we love it just the same, and ponied up the money to have it fixed.

Can do the inside of the closest glass yourself with some... Modifications. Lens further in not possible.

Have you try vacuum method, I saw someone do it on G7X. Just start the camera, pull out the battery so that lens stays extended, vacuum the whole lens

Powerful and sophisticated for sure. From my time with this super little camera I think it is an amazing achievement by Canon. Easy for the outside observer to misjudge this sophisticated little touch based camera on superficial examination.

I agree. I had the older G9X and now own the Mark II.

Although the M2 is better in many aspects, my M1 was sharper. I attribute it to lens production variation. Anyhow I could buy the new M2 for 250 € and won't whine about it.

It really is a piece of engineering achievement and great fun to use !!

It is always surprising how the often fusty old Canon of all companies manage to produce these neat little stylish bits of kit like the Ixus of old and the G9X.

It is a camera I miss but haven't the funds to keep multiple compacts and the G5X is a good all rounder but the G9X had an amazing portability for a 1" machine. Difficult to criticise it given its size.
