D100 Still Working...

After over 15 years, my D100 that I bought back in February 2004 still is working.  Not really surprised about the camera but all three batteries that I also got then (in the box and two spares) can still hold a charge.  Just for kicks I’m going to take it for a spin and see how long the battery holds up.  Surprised those old Li-ion batteries still have at least some kick after 15+ years.

The batteries in my D200 have held up well too. I bought the camera and an extra battery new in Feb/06 and camera's battery health meter still shows them both as 'new'. As far as I can tell they still power the camera as long as they ever did. No complaints from me about the batteries.

Likewise - the only problem is that after lengthy storage without a battery inserted the D200 clock capacitor has given up. It holds the date/time just long enough for a very quick battery change - but that's it.

That's unfortunate.. So far mine will still hold the correct time for extended periods. It might drift a minute or so but that's about it. I have a number of older cameras on display in my office so two or three times a year I'll take each one out, put a battery in and exercise them along with their flashes to keep the caps formed. I don't know if it helps or not but my dad always said use 'em or lose 'em. He was referring to vehicles but I think it's sage advice for anything mechanical. Now that the D200 has pretty much been retired, perhaps to help keep the clock cap in good shape I should be leaving the battery in for a few hours rather than just a few minutes. I'll have to look into that. Thanks for bringing it up.

Perfect for having along at the local Greek festival to grab a gyros. Love those rich CCD blue skies!

Wow, the intense color of the blue sky and reds in the tote bags really pop!

Well, after leaving it in for 2 weeks the clock lasted about 10 minutes. More than enough for battery change but not for recharge.................but then I was tempted by an as new boxed D300 (2000 clicks) so the 200 has gone. Sad, but there are things I want that that the 300 does better. I do have the D90 but just love the feel of the 300 and also having all the controls to hand is just so much nicer than menus and stuff

Congrats. I think the 300 will be a nice step up. I remember when it came out a bit of a GAS attack came over me but I was successfully able to fight it off.

Thanks, yray, I know you're only half-kidding here about the “upgrade” but in this case the D100 is indeed the newest addition to my little collection of CCD classics. We can thank those legendary camera comparisons Maoby has done with all his old gear for inspiring that, lol.

Personally I’m still ranging in the D100 within Lightroom with respect to white balance. I notice that many people back in the day shot their daylight scenes using Cloudy WB settings on the D100 because Daylight WB looked too cold. Certainly Lightroom's Daylight WB which I used initially added too much magenta.

Below I've recast the shots above using a warmer WB that I measured from a grey card through the lens used that day. Same rich color saturation, but a bit more accurate WB now IMHO:
