Cleaning the XF18-55 front element

Hi all, does any body have experience on opening the XF18-55 from the front element?
My 18-55 have some fungus on the inner side of the front element, is it possible to disasambly the lens from the front element but not the rear?

Many thanks!

I'm sure it's possible.  The real question is how adept you are at working with lenses and other optics with fairly fine tolerances.  I would suggest that this may be something best left to the professionals, particularly considering the cost if something goes wrong in the process.  JMHO.

Totally agree with Jerry on this. But, should you want to tinker, and then find yourself the owner of a 'faulty' lens as you had problems reassembling it, you can pick one up second had for $250-$350. I would imagine that the cost of repairing/cleaning the lens would be 1/2 of that range. Better yet, just leave it to the pros.

Thank you for the reply first.
Actually I have already go to the offical customer centre and ask for cleaning. They told me that they have to replace the glass instead of just clean it. They ask for about 120USD... nearly a half of a new lens. So I think I will save the money, sell my 56 1.2 out and wait for the 16-80 (56 1.2 is a great lens, but I think it is just not for me...).
But I think it is worth to try cleaning the lens by myself

Good news, I have just opened the front element and cleaned it. when I install the glass back to the lens, it just fit and fixed solidly. All function are normal and the sharpness is similar to the original. Thanks everyone!
Since there are only few picture about the XF18-55 diasambly, I will just upload them for record and share.

1. The naming plate just stick to the front by double side tape, here is the picture after the naming plate is taken away.

2. There was a screw in blue circle, I just took the picture after I screw it out... But for the position in red circle, originally that is no screw.

3. 3 little spring there, just be careful and don't lost them.

Finally, just make sure you stick back the naming plate in correct direction, otherwise it will look weird

Since English is not my home language, hopemy word are not too difficult to understand and they are useful for all of you, thanks again!

May I ask how do you take out the front plate?

Hi

We have a very skilled forum member, yukosteel. He has a blog on lens disassembly.
