EVF GX9

I have been thinking of up grading my G5 for a GX9. I briefly had a GX85 and just could not get a sharp clear image in the VF no matter what I did plus I am left eye dominant which made the problem even worse. A long time ago I had a GX7 and did not find this issue plus I remember the diopter being smooth with no clicks and the fact that it tilted made left eye viewing just fine. My question is does the GX9 have the same diopter as the GX85 and if so is it better. I really think the fact that the EVF tilts and there is a hood for it would make it the perfect camera.

Re: EVF GX9

can’t believe no one has experience with theses two cameras and not willing to offer an opinion.

I have zero experience with the GX85 so can't say if the diopter on the GX9 is the same or not.  I can say that the diopter on the GX9 has click stops and is rotary, unlike the GX7.  Also, I find the GX7's EVF to be sharper than the GX9's.  It hasn't stopped me from enjoying the GX9, though.

Re: EVF GX9

Dear friend, basically GX7, GX85 and GX9 use the same display unit. The only exception, GX7 and GX9 are upward tilt-able (which is great for waist level shooting) and GX85 does not.

As you noticed GX7 use a silder type of adjuster at the bottom of the evf (because it can be tilted up so there is a space for it, IMHO it is hard to do precise adjustment), whereas the fixed evf of GX85 has to use the traditional design, has the dioptre adjuster on a side in form of a dial (IMHO it is far easy to do precise adjustment but also more prone to change by accident). Had decided to skip GX9 and so have no experience on this model.

Currently GX7 and GX85 are my current main cameras and never found any obvious difference between them. I don't need that extra eye cup so can't comment on it. However I am a long time progressive focal length spectacle wearer such that my eyesight, if not corrected, could be the worst of the average. Might be the only difference between us, you are left eye user and I am right eye user... 😁

I did find it an issue with my GX7, exactly as you described for the GX85.

plus I remember the diopter being smooth with no clicks and the fact that it tilted made left eye viewing just fine. My question is does the GX9 have the same diopter as the GX85 and if so is it better. I really think the fact that the EVF tilts and there is a hood for it would make it the perfect camera.

I don't think it was the adjustable diopter causing it. I think it was the optics, being made down to a compact size.

If you are getting differing opinions on the same models, such as me differing from you wrt GX7, then I suggest you don't trust the comments in response to your question. By 'trust' I mean trust that you will experience it the same as others do.

So I think you really need to find one and try it.

cheers

Yes I think you are exactly right about trying it first, I will rent one and see what happens.

Thanks again for all the help!

Re: EVF GX9

I got the optional eyecup for the GX9 and found that I had better vision through the EVF.

Re: EVF GX9

Renting, or spending a few hours in a camera store is a really good idea.

The viewfinders on the gx84 and gx9 are the same, -4.0 - +3.0 (dpt). I prefer the gx9 viewfinder since it flips up so I can use it with either eye without triggering the shutter with my face
