Ahh the perennial "photographer" requisite. Bedrock of any good photo site.

Hi everyone, i am planning to do more photography and am considering to buy the G7X Mark III vs a new smartphone.

I already have a working phone so its more for photography.

But i am wondering, with Smartphones photo quality nowadays, is a compact camera like the G7 relevant anymore?

Specially when compared to phones that is marketed as high photo quality smartphones like the Pixel and P30 Pro.

Many of the videos i found were of older models of cameras or smartphones.

Is there any comparison for the latest gear that can show if a dedicated camera still provides better quality these days? Or any insights or experiences to share?

I was wondering the same, ended up getting the Panasonic TZ200.
Why?
Because the IQ of phones is pretty good these days and the dynamic range is exceptional..
Zoom on the other hand, is still lacking.
Therefore I was looking for a balance between size, price and zoom.

The TZ200 is exactly it.

The G7X wasn't enough for me, and I actually thought of getting the G5X II... but the price is ridiculous right now, I'm not going to throw 1K on a compact camera.

I got the TZ200 for $600 which seems fair.

The camera is great so far btw, just as long as there is light.  At night I prefer my phone using Google's camera port.
