Best Lowepro lens case for Canon 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM ?

I'm about to acquire a Canon 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM. Looking at cases to carry them. I don't really like the look/feel of the Canon case for it. Also, I've been very happy with Lowpro cases in the past.

Only I'm not sure of which would be the best fit for this lens. I'd love feedback from those of you who have this lens, and have tried Lowpro lens cases for them.

Thanks in advance for any and all information.

Nic

You might want to check out Tamrac. Their belt attachment is much more secure and less "floppy" I believe  the arc 2.4 is the correct size. Very happy with it.

I have the 13 by 32 and am happy with it.  Originally  bought it for my Tamron 150-600. The 100 400 mk2 fits  also,  with the lens hood attached and a 1.4 tc attached.  Don't carry it on my belt but use it for storage and transport.

The Canon case is very good, actually.

Why do not buy a case which hold the lens and the camera? I found out that such a case is more useful than a lens case when I am in the field.

Agree about the Canon case. It is very good. I too recommend a slim backpack with one body. I use the Flipside 300AW II. But in your case I would get the 200AW II.

Right, I use the 100-400 II for photographing wildlife, it is always on the lens because you have to react within a few seconds. Seriously I have never carried it in a lens case. When shooting landscapes it is in my camera backpack and I use a wrap to store it safely.

Although all my other lens pouches are from LowePro, the best I found was the Vanguard ICS Lens 25 Multi-Function Camera Lens Pouch, although that particular case is perhaps discontinued. It takes the lens with the tripod foot and lens hood in reverse.

I use an 11x26", tight fit, but very good protection, so 13x32" could be better if you want the lens out in a hurry

Camera backpacks are no good for me - wheelchair user. Case I'm looking at is mostly for storage/transport.

They are not backpacks, see this, for example

If you want a case to hold the camera with lens attached, I second the recommendation of the Lowepro Toploader.  And I also like the Canon case (though the color might be more attention-grabbing than basic black).

Congrats on your acquisition. I've just done the same, a moment of madness at midnight and I clicked the buy button.

Partly because I'm off work and away from home and my 70-200 just didn't cut taking a photo of the amazing moon last night.

My problem is going to be I already came away with a bag that was stuffed full, so I've got nowhere to put the new lens for the journey back!

I was actually also going to recommend a Toploader (e.g. 55 AW, there are different sizes, one can look which size is right for the particular purpose on the web site, gives the inside dimensions), so that the lens can be put in the case mounted to the body.

But maybe that's not how you envision usage. But I think in case of a 100-400, you have a specific use in mind, and you will not constantly switch lenses. Therefore, it will be practical to keep the lens mounted on the body.

Time to upgrade to one of the larger Gura Gear bags?

Ah, they look great, but the cool thing about the Lowepro is it fits in the overhead bins in planes (and is the maximum size for hand luggage).

I did manage to fit the extra lens in in the end!

My backpack fits underseat or overhead and has never been denied boarding.
Glad to hear you fit that extra lens and hope everything is still padded thoroughly.
